IUPUI SNAPS OAKLAND'S RECORD STREAK
IUPUI posted a convincing 78-54 victory over Oakland Thursday night, ending the Golden Grizzlies' 16-game league win streak. Already tied for the league record with Cleveland State (1992-93), Oakland was attempting to establish a new mark. The Jaguars extended their own win streak to six and moved into a tie for first place with OU. Click here and here to read the game recaps from IUPUI and Oakland's websites.

BALANCING A BABY AND BASKETBALL
Like any mother, UMKC head women's basketball coach Candace Whitaker has had her hands full balancing a new baby and her career. What is unique is that mom coaches a Division I basketball team. A recent feature from the Kansas City Star is available here.

NDSU'S TRECKER TO RECEIVE CONGERESSIONAL AWARD
North Dakota State women's basketball player Whitney Trecker will receive a certificate of recognition from the United States Congress at the bi-annual Star of the North awards ceremony on Feb. 16 in Lakeville, Minn. Trecker was one of many NDSU student-athletes who assisted with flood relief in the Red River Valley last spring. Click here to read the full release from gobison.com.

BISON NARROWLY MISS PRESEASON TOP-25
Defending Summit League champion North Dakota State, who reached the NCAA Super Regional round last season, narrowly missed cracking into the top-25 after receiving 44 points in the USA Today/NFCA pre-season softball poll. The Bison are scheduled to open the 2010 season at Arizona State's Kajiwara Classic on Feb. 12-14. Click here to read more.


MAKING A DIFFERENCE
UMKC's redshirt junior Zachary Alhom took a short break from tennis over the winter holidays to give back in Rwanda.  Alholm, along with four other college students and a group leader, traveled in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda and helped several rural churches lead vacation bible school for the children. WESTERN ILLINOIS IMPLEMENTS ROCKY'S REACH
Western Illinois student-athletes will once again volunteer their time and attention as they interact with elementary age children with the recently implemented Rocky's Reach program.  This program places Fighting Leatherneck student-athletes at local elementary schools two days a week to help with mentoring, recess activities and playing board games. FORMER BISON TO REPRESENT U.S. IN SCOTLAND
Former North Dakota State track All-American Laura (Hermanson) Januszewski will be the lone American competing in the 800 meters at the Aviva International Match on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Glasgow, Scotland. Januszewski will compete against 2008 Olympic semi-finalists Great Britain's Jenny Meadows and Grenada's Neisha Bernard-Thomas as well as Jana Hartmann of Germany and Rebecca Hogberg of Sweden.
