Women's Soccer Lands Seven on Academic All-District Teams

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Seven league women's soccer players were named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® teams it was announced Thursday. IPFW's Tara O'Toole, IUPUI's Katrina McCrory and Anna Pigg, North Dakota State's Megan Dean and Becky Iwanicki and Western Illinois' Jennifer Green and Amanda Wright.

O'Toole carries a 3.93 grade point average (GPA) as a sophomore pre-medicine major for the Mastodons. She is second on the squad in points with 10, coming from four goals and two assists.  She also leads the team with two game-winning goals.

A senior finance major, McCrory has a 3.74 GPA as a starting forward for the IUPUI team. She is first on her team and second in the league with five assists. McCrory has also scored six goals for a total of 17 points, fourth in the league.

Pigg has helped anchor the Jaguars defensive backline starting 16 of her 17 matches played thus far this season. The jurnior from Terre Haute, Ind., has a 3.86 GPA as a nursing major.

Iwanicki was also a first team selection in 2006 and 2007.  The Calgary, Alberta native has a 4.00 GPA in biology.  This season, she scored the first game-winning goal of her career in a 2-1 victory over Lamar.  She also has one assist.

This is Dean's first Academic All-District honor.  A defender, Dean scored the first goal of her career against Lamar earlier this season and also assisted on a goal against Mary.  The Inver Grove Heights, Minn. native helped the Bison defense post three shutouts.  She has a 3.90 GPA in exercise science.

Green, a 3.94 GPA in special education, has tallied two goals and an assist for the Fighting Leathernecks this season.

A defender from Springfield, Ill., Wright has started all 15 matches for Western Illinois this season. The senior is a biology major at WIU with a 3.95 GPA.

With their first team selections, Green, Iwanicki, McCrory and Wright now advance to the national ballot for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® soccer team to be announced Tuesday, Nov. 17.

To be eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® honors, student-athletes must have a 3.30 or better cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale, have sophomore athletic standing, and be a starter or key reserve for their team.
