Oakland 2, UMKC 1, OT
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (ougrizzlies.com) - Sophomore Jeff Cheslik notched the game-winning goal during overtime in the 95th minute to conclude the comeback and help the Oakland University men's soccer team (9-4-2, 5-0 Summit League) secure the regular season championship with a 2-1 victory over UMKC (6-8-2, 2-1-2 Summit League) Saturday afternoon at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field.

Both squads locked down on the defensive end in the first half, producing a scoreless match going into halftime. But the 'Roos struck first in the 48th minute when David Sarabia headed the ball into the net's lower right corner to take a 1-0 lead.

With just under six minutes to go in the match, freshman Shane Lyons connected with a feed from sophomore Daiki Mori and headed the ball into the lower left corner to knot the game up at 1-1 in the 84th minute, bringing the match into an overtime period.

At 95:37, Cheslik picked the right time to score his first career goal when accepted a pass from junior Makesi Lewis inside the six-yard box and tapped it in to give Oakland the 2-1 victory.

UMKC just edged out OU in shots, 16-13, but both teams were evenly matched in corner kicks with five apiece. The Golden Grizzlies committed 11 fouls to UMKC's 10 and sophomore goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt made four saves in net.

With the regular season title claimed, the Golden Grizzlies will possess the number one seed in The Summit League Tournament, hosted by OU, on Friday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 15.

IUPUI 2, IPFW 0
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (iupuijags.com) - The IUPUI men's soccer team kept its Summit League postseason hopes alive and notched its third straight win with a 2-0 triumph over visiting IPFW at Carroll Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Emile Garcia recorded the game-winner in the 54th minute and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Keever made three saves in his second shutout of the year.

Senior Caleb Lindemann added some late insurance with a penalty kick in the game's 73rd minute.

On a day in which there were steady 20 to 30 mile an hour winds blowing into the east goal and the field was sloppy at best, the Jaguars were playing for a scoreless tie in the first half.

"Today's game was going to come down to a mistake or the wind," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "We wanted to try and be a little bit intelligent and weather the storm (in the first half). They chose to play direct with three front runners and in the second half, we had the wind."

IPFW's Max Touloute ripped a shot off the right post in the 13th minute for the Mastodons' best scoring chance of the first half. Despite outshooting IUPUI (4-10-3, 2-2-1 Summit) 6-3 in the first half, Franklin's squad accomplished its mission by going to halftime scoreless.

"We wanted to get into halftime with the score level," Franklin said. "We were thinking if we could keep them without putting something on the scoreboard, we'd be in good shape."

Garcia made the strategy work by scoring his second goal of the season just over eight minutes in to the second stanza. Freshman Kyle Hyland sent a long throw-in to the rookie defender who redirected a shot past IPFW (5-11-2, 1-4 Summit) goalkeeper Donovan Dowling.

IUPUI kept the heat on and finally got a break when sophomore Perez Agaba drew a penalty kick by drawing a foul inside the left edge of the 18-yard box. After a lengthy delay, Lindemann blazed the PK into the upper right side of the net.

"I was just making sure to not look where I was putting it in the goal," Lindemann said. "I kept my eyes on the ground, but I knew I was scoring - no question."

"I give Caleb a lot of credit," Franklin said. "He pounded on his chest and said I want the penalty and like a good senior, he stepped up and put it away."

IUPUI has now outscored the opposition 10-1 during its current three-game winning streak.

"It feels great. We've been working so hard as a team and had so many tough, close losses," Lindemann said. "To finally get some momentum at the end of the season when it really counts, it feels good.

"You can see it in everybody's eyes and we really believe we can make it in the NCAA Tournament."

After not getting a win in its first three outcomes of Summit League play, the Jaguars have responded with back-to-back home wins over Oral Roberts and IPFW.

"In this conference, you always want to be in a position where you control your own destiny," Franklin said. "If you win your games, you make the conference tournament. What really stinks is when you have to rely on other teams to decide your fate."

Four different Jaguars attempted two shots on Saturday while both Garcia and Lindemann put two on frame. Both Keever and Dowling made three stops in net. Raphael Martinez had two shots on goal for the 'Dons.

Western Illinois 4, Oral Roberts 1
TULSA, Okla. (goleathernecks.com) -
Cosimo Patano's game-winning goal in the 49th minute helped Western Illinois to a 4-1 road victory against Oral Roberts, Saturday, Oct. 31.

Oral Roberts (6-8-2, 2-3-1 Summit League) scored the first goal of the match when Vince Tizzone found the back of the net at the 23:59 mark but Western would tie the match, 1-1, on Martin Browne, Jr.'s goal in the 42nd minute.

Western Illinois would strike three more times in the match, including Patano's goal at the 48:04 mark. Browne, Jr. would add his second goal on a penalty kick just 41 seconds later at the 48:45 mark to push the lead to 3-1.

The Leathernecks got another insurance goal when Nathan Bruinsma knocked in a header on a pass from Oskar Gasecki in the 55th minute to give Western a 4-1 lead.

Stephen Paterson made eight saves, including five in the second half, to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Golden Eagles finished with 17 shots to Western's 14, including a nine to five advantage in shots on goal.
