UMKC 3, Centenary 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The UMKC volleyball team swept Centenary on Thursday night, downing the Ladies, 3-0.  The win snaps the 'Roos three match losing streak, while improving their record to 11-15 overall and 7-8 in The Summit League.  Jamie Hagerman led the squad in the match, as the senior filled the stat sheet finishing with team highs of 14 kills, 12 digs, and a .433 hitting percentage.  Christiana McQuin, meanwhile, added eight kills and a team-high nine blocks.

In the first set, the squad jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead, before taking the set, 25-19.  The Kangaroos trailed only once in the set at 0-1, while holding their biggest lead of seven at 23-16.  Hagerman and McQuin each tallied four kills in the set, while setters Holly Schmidt and Erin Wellwood finished with four assists each.

The 'Roos went up 2-0 in the match after beating the Ladies, 25-22, in the second set.  The team again went down 0-1 in the set, but would reel off eight of the next 11 points to go up 8-4.  The 'Roos would never trail again in the set, while leading by as many as seven.  Hagerman notched half of her kills in the set, as the outside hitter finished with seven kills and three blocks to pace the squad.  Wellwood added seven assists and McQuin chipped in three kills and three blocks.

UMKC would complete the sweep in set three, defeating Centenary, 25-21.  The Ladies would take the early lead in the set until relinquishing it at 8-7.  After Centenary retook the lead two points later, the 'Roos would capture the lead for good at 10-9.  The squad would lead by as many as six in the set, and would close it out fittingly on a kill from Hagerman.  Elizabeth Beck finished with a team-high five kills, while Schmidt and Wellwood each registered six assists.  Defensively, Wellwood and libero Nicole Kerkman each had six digs.

In the match, Beck recorded eight kills, while sophomore Kelsey Knoche and Brittany Fossier each chipped in five.  Wellwood led the team in assists with 17, with Schmidt finishing with 14.  Nicole Kerkman led the squad in the back row, registering 12 digs.

Southern Utah 3, Oral Roberts 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19)

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Nov. 5 - Southern Utah women's volleyball used a balanced attack and took advantage of 23 ORU errors to post a 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 sweep over the Golden Eagles on Thursday night.  The victory moves the Thunderbirds to 7-18 overall and 5-10 in conference play, while Oral Roberts drops to 10-13 and 6-8 in the Summit League.

Southern Utah captured the first two points of the opening set, but runs and counter runs left the teams tied at 8-8 and later 13-13 in the frame.  The Thunderbirds then went on a 4-0 run, capitalizing on four consecutive Oral Roberts' errors, leading to a visitor's timeout.  The Golden Eagles scored the very next point, but were unable to come any closer as Jazmine Ma'afala punctuated the 25-18 set victory with her team-high sixth kill of the frame.  Overall, Ma'afala hit .714 during the stanza with six kills on seven attempts and only one error.

The T-Birds, once again, recorded the first point of the set as the teams entered the second frame and built a lead of as much as 14-8, forcing an ORU timeout.  SUU had leads of eight on five occasions, including advantages of 18-10, 19-11, 20-12, 21-13 and 22-14 before finally wrapping up the set 25-18 on an Analaine Pelaez kill.

Pelaez continued to lead the T-Bird attack in the third set, collecting eight kills and helping the team break a 10-10 deadlock in the middle of the frame.  Once Southern Utah had the 11-10 advantage the team never looked back, building a lead of 22-16 and forcing a Golden Eagle timeout.  ORU was able to fight off the first match-point at 24-18, but Tess Lawrence recorded her seventh kill of the match to give the Thunderbirds the 25-19 victory.

Ma'afala and Pelaez led Southern Utah with 13 kills each with Pelaez also collecting 12 digs for the double-double.  Brittney Clark led the team with 35 assists, finding the middle most effective as Lawrence led the team hitting .600 with seven kills on ten attempts and only one error.
