BROOKINGS, S.D. - The top two seeds in The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship, South Dakota State and IUPUI, each advanced to Sunday's title match with 1-0 semifinal victories Friday, at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings, S.D. SDSU needed two overtimes to defeat No. 4 Western Illinois in the first match of the day, while IUPUI downed No. 3 North Dakota State in the second semifinal match.

The Jackrabbits are looking for their second consecutive Summit League Championship title, in only their second year of eligibility for the tournament. The Jaguars advanced to the title match for the first time in school history after falling in the semifinals in each of their previous four trips to the league tournament.

South Dakota State's Kaitlin Justice scored the golden goal to give the top-seeded Jackrabbits a 1-0 double overtime victory over fourth seed Western Illinois Friday, in the first semifinal match.

In the eighth minute of the second overtime period, Justice took a cross from Christa Nyblom and netted it past the Fighting Leatherneck goalkeeper Laura Atkinson for the lone goal of the match.

SDSU's Emily Quigley tried to end the match in the first overtime only to have both shots blocked, while WIU's Nora Potempa had her shot sail wide of the goal just five minutes before Justice's game-winner.

Despite outshooting Western 29-9, SDSU managed only one goal due to a stellar defensive effort by all-league receipient Atkinson. Atkinson made eight saves in the match, while her counterpart, SDSU's Brie Rogers made three stops. Justice had six shots to lead the Jacks, while Alison Smyth had two shots to lead the Leathernecks. SDSU held an 8-3 corner kick advantage in the match.

South Dakota State improves to 11-6-2 on the season and faces No. 2 IUPUI in the championship match Sunday. Western Illinois ends its season with an 8-8-2 overall record.

Second seed IUPUI escaped with a 1-0 victory over third-seeded North Dakota State in the second semifinal match of the day Friday, as Megan Hock tallied a first half goal to seal the win for the Jaguars.

Hock found the back of the net in the 39th minute as she took a pass from Offensive Player of the Year Alicia Brock off the counter-attack. The goal came two minutes after a shot by NDSU's Lorraine Thompson was stopped by IUPUI goalie Jamie Farrell. The Bison held a 9-5 shot advantage at halftime.

NDSU continued its pressure in the second half, holding a 12-3 shot advantage, but could not score on the IUPUI defense as Farrell made four of her five saves in the period. The Bison stopper, Kalani Bertsch, made two saves in the loss.

Leslie Walker had three shots to lead the Jags, while Thompson, Danielle Boldenow and Quin Ryan each had four shots for the Bison.

IUPUI stands at 16-4-0 on the season and takes on No. 1 South Dakota State in the championship match Sunday, while North Dakota State concludes its season with a 10-8-2 mark.
