IUPUI Captures Summit League Women's Soccer Championship Title

BROOKINGS, S.D. - For the fifth consecutive season the No. 2 seed claimed The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship as IUPUI upset No. 1 South Dakota State by a 4-1 score Sunday, at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings, S.D. The title was the first in school history for the Jaguars.

After falling behind 1-0 at halftime, IUPUI scored four straight goals in the second half to seal the victory. SDSU took an early 1-0 lead as Danni Healy took a ball in front of the net and slipped it past IUPUI goalie Jamie Farrell in the eighth minute of the match. Kaitlin Justice and Kayla Braffet were credited with assists.

The Jaguars evened the score in the 54th minute as Stephanie Hoffman scored off a free kick from just outside the box, beating the Jackrabbit goalkeeper, Brie Rogers. In the 69th minute, Kelli Parks scored the evenutal game-winner as she took a throw in from Chelsi McHenry at the top of the box to find the back of the net.

IUPUI would add two insurance goals earn the victory. The first came in the 86th minute as McHenry took a cross from Megan Hock and beat Rogers to the bottom left of the goal. The second goal was scored with just one second remaining in the match as Hock blasted a ball over Rogers' head from midfield.

Farrell, named Tournament MVP, made seven saves in the match, while her counterpart Rogers had two stops. In the two tournament matches, Farrell made 12 saves and allowed only one goal in 180 minutes in net.

Hoffman led the Jags with three shots, while Healy had six for the Jacks. SDSU outshot IUPUI 16-13, while corners were even at one apiece.

IUPUI improves to 17-4-0, while South Dakota State ends its season with a 11-7-2 record. The Jags earn The Summit League's automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup. The NCAA women's soccer selection show will air live on ESPNews Monday, at 7 p.m. CST.
