Each month, The Summit League will feature outstanding student-athlete performances from a selected institution as recognized by its Faculty Athletic Representative. The December installment of The Summit League Scholar-Athlete Spotlight features three student-athletes from IUPUI.

Mia Ettl, Softball
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Mishawaka, Ind.
Major: Pre-Occupational Therapy/Exercise Science
GPA: 3.75

A senior outfielder, Mia Ettl has accumulated a 3.75 GPA as a pre-occupational therapy and exercise science major. On the field, Ettl has gone from an average middle-of-the-order hitter into one of the top power threats in The Summit League. As a junior, she belted a school record 12 home runs and posted a .658 slugging percentage. She has started 136 games, primarily in right field, going into her senior season in 2010. Academically, Ettl found her calling through some physical setbacks of her own. While rehabbing a softball injury, Ettl realized she would like helping others and has not looked back. Since there, she has been on The Summit League Commissioner's List for Academic Excellence twice and on IUPUI's Academic Advisor's List every semester of her career. She and her softball teammates annually make an impact on the community by participating in the Habitat for Humanity partnership with the NCAA national office, while also taking part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Katrina McCrory, Women's Soccer
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Bloomington, Ind.
Major: Finance/International Studies and Management
GPA: 3.74

A senior women's soccer standout majoring in finance/international studies and Management in the IU Kelley School of Business, IUPUI was not McCrory's top choice after high school but the midfielder flourished both on and off the field upon arrival. She had planned to attend Washington University in St. Louis, but called IUPUI head coach Chris Johnson and opted to walk-on in 2006. From there, she later ascended to co-captain and capped her career as a two-time first team All-Summit League selection and guided the Jags to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2009. McCrory finished as IUPUI's all-time leader in games played. She was honored with the IUPUI Michael A. Carroll Scholarship based on community service, academic prowess and athletic successes and was one of 30 national finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. McCrory's work in the classroom also helped her earn back-to-back academic all-district and all-region awards. Her volunteer work has included working at the Riley Hospital for Children once a week by hosting a television show for the patients and serving as a mentor at Little Flower Elementary School, College Mentors for Kids and the Horizon House.

Eric Weigman, Men's Soccer
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Appleton, Wis.
Major: Finance
GPA: 3.87

A senior men's soccer standout, Eric Weigman's athletic and academic prowess have earned him three first team Academic All-District and Academic All-League awards during his career. During the 2009 season, Weigman was recognized as one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award, based on the areas of classroom, character, community, and competition. He also has been named to The Summit League Commissioner's List for Academic Excellence twice during his collegiate career. On the field, Weigman has been a consistent offensive threat throughout his career and helped the Jags to a regional ranking during two of his four seasons. A two-time all-league performer, Weigman takes his opportunities to better the Indianapolis community seriously. He has volunteered at the National Kidney Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Gleaners Food Bank and worked numerous soccer clinics. Weigman has been recognized by his peers for his community service involvement and contributes to the Kelley Director Mentor program helping other business students on campus. A highly touted recruit, Weigman was attracted to IUPUI because he shared a similar passion for the game as head coach Steve Franklin.
