GOLFERS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

Western Illinois' Kyle Peterman and North Dakota State's Amy Anderson were named The Summit League's Golfers of the Year this week, in a vote by the league's 10 head coaches. Peterman finished the season with both the lowest stroke average and round in the league this season. His 71.5 average was the 28th best in the nation. Anderson recorded a league-leading 74.0 stroke average and was the top finisher in all 10 tournaments this season for the Bison and collected a first-place individual finish in five events. FOUR TRACK ATHLETES EARN ALL-AMERICA ACCOLADES
After strong performances at the NCAA Championships, four Summit League athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America Team. North Dakota State was represented in the heptathlon by senior Heather Zander and the long jump by junior Whitney Carlson. Oral Roberts' selections were senior Rachel Talbert in the discus and junior Marvin Bonde in the 200m. Click here to read more.

SUU's SHAW NAME TO PING!BASEBALL FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
Southern Utah catcher Taylor Shaw has been named to the Ping!Baseball Freshman All-American Third Team. For the year, the Pleasant View, Utah, native hit .364 with four homers and 28 RBI. Shaw also recorded a .971 fielding percentage behind the plate during the 2010 campaign. Click here to read more.

ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE ANNOUNCED
The Summit League's Academic All-League Teams for the winter and spring seasons were announced this week, with a total of 1,017 student-athletes honored for their academic excellence. South Dakota State led the way with a league-best 154 selections to the Academic All-Summit League squad, followed by Oakland and Western Illinois. Click here to find out more.

ORU's FURMANEK SIGNS MINOR LEAGUE DEAL WITH THE ROYALS
Former Oral Roberts slugger Seth Furmanek has signed a minor league free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals. A catcher and designated hitter for the Golden Eagles, the Royals signed Furmanek as a first baseman.  Click here to read more.

SDSU's VERMEULEN NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
South Dakota State's Trever Vermeulen was named a third team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) this week. Vermeulen, a first team All-Summit League selection, led the league with 10 saves on the year with a total of 35 appearances. Click here to read more.

OAKLAND's BENSON AND IUPUI YOUNG RECOGNIZED
Oakland center Keith Benson was recognized by Yahoo! Sports on its preseason All-Low-Major Team while IUPUI forward Alex Young was selected to the team's "bench" to put The Summit League into a tie for the most players on the 12-man unit. Click here to read more.


WIU's MELZ PARTICIPATES ON PANEL FOR PUSH COALITION

Western Illinois' Lisa Melz, Director of Athletic Academic Services and Senior Woman Administrator for Western Illinois Athletics, served on a panel during the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Conference in Chicago this week. Melz participated in the Conference's 'A More Perfect Union: The State of Civil Rights'. Click here to read more.
