FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW held a lead on Michigan State as late as the 10:47 mark of the second half but was unable to hold on for the upset victory Wednesday night. The Mastodons (0-2) trailed by eight at the half, but opened the second stanza on a 20-11 run. Ben Botts led IPFW with 22 points on the night, including four three-pointers. David Carson scored 17 and Delivez Yearby added 10 and six boards for the Mastodons.

UMKC 66, Wichita State 63
WICHITA, Kan. – UMKC used a balanced scoring attack with four players in double-figures to defeat Wichita State Wednesday night. The Kangaroos (1-2) led by eight with 2:39 remaining and withstood a late Shocker rally to hold on for their first win at Wichita State. The victory also marked the second consecutive year in which UMKC defeated WSU. Spencer Johnson scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Roos while Latreze Mushatt added 13, Dane Brumagin 12 and Reggie Hamilton 11.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois gave Jim Molinari his first win at the school Wednesday with an 18-point victory over Eureka. The Leathernecks (1-2) shot 53 percent in the contest and pulled away in the second half. David DuBois scored a game-high 17 points and Quenton Kirby recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Tommie Tyler added 13 points and Josh Rivers chipped in 10.

RICHMOND, Va. – South Dakota State was unable to overcome 31 percent shooting and dropped its road contest Wednesday at Virginia Commonwealth. The Jackrabbits (1-2) got a double-double from Clint Sargent, who tallied 20 points and 10 boards. Garrett Callahan poured in a team-high 21 points and Anthony Cordova pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the game.
