ELMHURST, Ill.  - North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson and South Dakota State senior Amanda Frohling were both named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine University Division Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-America® Team. Carlson earns first-team honors, while Frohling garners a second-team selection.

Carlson earns her second straight national academic honor after maintaining a 4.00 GPA in zoology.  She was an All-American performer in the long jump at the NCAA Championships with an 11th place finish and will compete in the same event at the U.S. Championships on Friday.

The Buchanan, N.D. native set an NDSU record in the long jump (6.43m) this spring and also claimed Summit League titles in the 100 meter hurdles, the 400 meter hurdles and the long jump.  She was an all-league selection in both indoor and outdoor track.  Carlson was the Field Athlete of the Year in indoor track and also claimed indoor Championship Track MVP honors after winning the 200 meters, the long jump and the 60 meter hurdles.

Frohling, a senior from Yankton, S.D., received second-team honors after compiling a perfect 4.0 grade-point average throughout her collegiate career, while majoring in biology and pre-physical therapy.

A four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track and field, Frohling was a member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team in 2009 before earning first-team all-district recognition in 2010. She was a member of the Jackrabbit women's cross country team that won The Summit League Championship in 2008, finishing 25th individually. She closed her collegiate career with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase the 2010 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Earlier this spring, Frohling was the recipient of the Jackrabbit Scholar-Athlete Award for maintaining the top GPA among graduating student-athletes at SDSU.

To be eligible for ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® honors, student-athletes must have a 3.30 or better cumulative GPA on a 4-point scale, have sophomore athletic standing, and be a starter or key reserve for their team.
