Records Fall In Day Two of The Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- At the conclusion of day two, Oakland increased its lead for both the men and the women at The Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis.

On the men's side, Oakland is first place with 564.5 points, followed by Centenary with 388 points and Eastern Illinois with 370 points. South Dakota State is currently in fourth with 262.5 points, with South Dakota in the fifth position with 233 points. Rounding out the scoring are Western Illinois (196 points) and IUPUI (129 points).

For the women, Oakland took a commanding lead and is in first with 650 points. South Dakota State is second with 333 points, while South Dakota is in third with 288 points. Centenary holds the fourth spot with 281 points. Western Illinois (254 points), Eastern Illinois (252 points) and IUPUI (163 points) claimed the fifth through seventh spots, respectively.

Action began in the 200 medley relay with Oakland's team of Agnes Solan, Johanna Gustafsson, Sandra Czerka and Alyssa Vela capturing an NCAA "B" cut along with a new Summit League Championships record time (1:42.53). Centenary recorded a second-place finish in the event (1:47.53) with Eastern Illinois in third (1:47.60).

For the men, Oakland won the 200 medley relay with a team of Anders Jensen, Scott Yarbrough, Alex Aceino and Ben Vavra claiming the victory in a time of 1:30.52. Eastern Illinois touched the wall second (1:32.30), narrowly defeated Centenary (1:32.74).

In the 400 IM, Oakland's JulieAnne Stears recorded a first-place finish (4:27.06) and Oakland's Joe Rodgers won on the men's side (3:58.22). The Golden Grizzlies also captured the second and third positions in the 400 IM with Eddie Toro (3:58.97) and John Ledda (4:09.65).

For the women, Oakland swept the awards in the 100 fly with Czerka (54.84) in first, Nicole Salmeto in second (56.80) and Sarah Ludema (56.81) in third.  Aceino touched the wall first in the men's 100 fly (49.19).

In the 200 free, South Dakota's Elizabeth Hoffman claimed first-place (1:51.34) and Oakland's Mike Templeton won for the men (1:38.99).

Katie Budahl from South Dakota State garnered a first-place finish, an NCAA "B" cut and a Summit League Championships record time in the 100 breast (1:02.56). Oakland's Yarbrough won for the men (55.76).

Oakland dominated the 100 back with both Solan (53.99) and Jensen (48.20)  earning NCAA "B" cut times and helping the 800 free relay squads win for the men (6:44.72) and women (7:32.78).

In the 3-meter diving preliminaries, IUPUI's Chen Ni set a new Summit League Championships mark of 311.60 before claiming the individual title with a score of 307.50.

The Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. (ET), with the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
