NDSU's Chmielewski, IPFW's Cronin Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. - North Dakota State senior first baseman Melissa Chmielewski and IPFW sophomore pitcher Courtney Cronin were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Louisville Slugger Division I All-Region second team.

Chmiewlewski earned all-region honors for the third time in her career, including a first team nod in 2009. Chmielewski, the two-time Summit League Player of the Year hit .398 with 10 home runs and 59 RBI. The Circle Pines, Minn., native ranks 20th nationally in RBI per game and 22nd in doubles per game.

Cronin, honored with the league's Pitcher of the Year honor, finished the season with an 18-11 record, and a 1.97 ERA, the latter of which ranks 69th in all of Division I softball, and the win total 78th. She struck out 168 batters in 177.1 innings of work, as opponents batted just .217 against her. She also added a save in the league tournament, and had 11 shutouts, currently ranked 14th in Division I in the statistic, and tied for the fourth most in a single season in Summit League history. 

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all of the honorees are now eligible for selection. This season a total of 256 softball student-athletes from 116 different institutions comprised the regional teams, two for each of the ten regions.
