Katie Matthews, Centenary

Fr., OF, The Woodland, Texas/College Park HS

Matthews earns The Summit League’s Player of the Week award after helping the Ladies win the ULM Mardi Gras Tournament.  The freshman from The Woodlands, Texas, belted her first collegiate home run against SEMO and scored the winning run vs. Central Arkansas.  Matthews hit .538 (7-for-13) over the weekend, scoring four runs and driving in three.  Her RBI in the first inning against Louisiana-Monroe was the winning run as it proved to be the difference. At the conclusion of the tournament, Matthews was named to the all-tournament team.

Also nominated: Laurel Pipkin, North Dakota State; Carli Slagle, UMKC; Caroline Fernandez, Southern Utah; Julie DePolo, Western Illinois.

Andi Padilla, North Dakota State

SR., P, Chino, Calif./Don Lugo HS

Padilla was named The Summit League’s Pitcher of the Week after she tallied four wins and posted a 0.42 ERA at the Southeast Louisiana Lion Classic.  The Chino, Calif., native recorded nine strikeouts in 16.2 innings and only allowed one earned run.  The senior right-hander currently leads The Summit League in ERA (0.42) and is tied for first with four wins.  Padilla has matched her single-season win total (4) from 2006, 2007 and 2008 in just four games this season. She also hurled a career-high eight innings vs. Tennesee-Martin.
