Angie Torain joined the league staff as Assistant Commissioner in July 2011 and was promoted to Associate Commissioner of Administrative Services in July 2012.
Torain moves into her new role with an emphasis on the areas of academic services, certification, compliance reviews, Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs), strategic planning, sport regulations and championships.
In her role the past year as Assistant Commissioner for
Compliance, Torain oversaw all aspects of the league’s
compliance program and served as the primary administrator for
several championships and sport committees.
Torain comes to The Summit League after serving as Associate
Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at member
institution IUPUI from 2007-11. While at IUPUI, her position
focused on the internal operations of the department, including
game management and staffing, while serving as the sport
administrator for the men's and women's soccer, golf and cross
country programs. In addition, she also oversaw the athletic
training staff and strength and conditioning program.
Prior to her stint with the Jaguar athletic department, Torain
served as an NCAA Assistant Director of Championships from 2006-07.
In that role, she coordinated the efforts for numerous Division II
championships, including approving budgets, working with
coordinators of officials and conducting site visits for six
different sports. She also assisted with the branding and
communications efforts for each of those championships.
From 2002-06, Torain spent over four years in The Summit League
office, where she served in the role of Associate Commissioner for
Institutional Services/Championship Administrator. She also served
as the league's Senior Woman Administrator. While at the league
office, she directed the league's compliance program, implemented
rules education programs, managed the league's Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) and managed and staffed selected league
championships. She was also the primary liaison for the women's
basketball, volleyball, softball, track and field, tennis and
swimming and diving committees.
Prior to that, Torain also served stints in the NCAA Enforcement
department and at the Horizon League. She was the Assistant
Director of Enforcement/Secondary Violations at the NCAA, where she
was responsible for processing secondary violation cases and helped
educate institutions and conferences on the processing of secondary
violations. As the Horizon League's Director of Compliance, Torain
issued interpretations, monitored NCAA legislative changes and
assisted with game operations.
Torain earned her B.A. in sociology from DePauw University in
1994, while participating in basketball and track and field. She
later received her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana in
1997.
A native of Elkhart, Ind., Angie and her husband, Kyle, are the
parents of three daughters, Kaylyn (15), Amari (10) and Addison (5)
and reside in Aurora, Ill.
