ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League named Oakland men's swimmer Marcin Unold (Gliwice, Poland) its Male Athlete of the Month and North Dakota State women's track & field athlete Leslie Brost (Watertown, S.D.) the Female Athlete of the Month for February.
Unold earns the Men's Athlete of the Month award after leading the Oakland men's swimming & diving team to its record 12th straight Summit League Championship title. The senior earned Swimmer of the Championship honors as well after collecting two first place individual titles and was part of five first place relay winning teams with all seven races hitting NCAA B Cut standards. His first place 100 Back time of 47.10 is ranked 24th in the nation, while his 200 Back time of 1:44.30 places him No. 36. Unold also swam the opening leg of the 400-meter free relay and 800-meter free relay, hitting NCAA B Cut times with his splits. All four individual times rank in the top-50 in the nation, while three of the four relay times are ranked.
Brost collects Women's Athlete of the Month honors after leading North Dakota State to its fourth straight Summit League Indoor Track & Field title, becoming the only team in league history to accomplish that feat. The junior set a new Summit League meet record, school and arena record with a jump of 14'1.25" (4.30m) in the pole vault to capture her first career indoor title. Her jump at the league championship broke her previously let school record of 13'11.25" (4.25m) set at the Bison Open earlier in the month. Named to the All-Summit League Team in February as well, Brost's jump automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championship, the only track athlete in the league to do so. She also won the pole vault in four-of-seven indoor meets this season.
