SOUTH DAKOTA STATE CAPTURES FIRST COMMISSIONER'S CUP
With the 2010-11 academic year in the books, South Dakota State won its first Summit League Commissioner's Cup title in school history. Oral Roberts captured its fifth-straight Dr. William Steinbrecher Men's All-Sports Award, while North Dakota State took home its second consecutive Dr. Helen Smiley Women's All-Sports Award. ORAL ROBERTS' WHITT TAKES SECOND AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Oral Roberts sophomore Jack Whitt claimed second overall in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Whitt finished second clearing 17'6.5" (5.35m), and falling just short of first place Scott Roth (Washington), who turned in 17'8.5" (5.40m). Click here to read more.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE'S CARLSON AND SCHMALTZ FINISH NINTH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
North Dakota State senior Whitney Carlson finished ninth in the long jump and fellow senior Christine Schmaltz was ninth in the 800-meter semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Click here to read more.

FIVE BASEBALL PLAYERS COLLECT FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA HONORS
Five league baseball players were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball, a new league record. Oral Roberts landed a pair of student-athletes on the team in third baseman T.J. Bennett and starting pitcher Alex Gonzalez. Centenary also placed two on the team in outfielders Pete Rajkovich and third baseman RJ Talamantes. Outfielder Tyson Weber of Southern Utah was also selected to the team. Click here to read more.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE EARNS SUMMIT LEAGUE SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
South Dakota State has been honored by its fellow institutions with the 2010-11 Summit League Sportsmanship Award. It is the second time in three years the school has been given the prestigious award. Click here to read more.

FOUR LEAGUE PLAYERS SELECTED IN MLB DRAFT
Four Summit League baseball players were selected in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft from June 6-8. South Dakota State starting pitcher Blake Treinen, Western Illinois reliever Garrett Bolt, Centenary starter Seth Lugo and Oral Roberts outfielder Nick Baligod were tabbed in the three-day draft. IPFW'S BALLUS AND NDSU'S ANDERSON NAMED SECOND-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA
IPFW senior women's tennis player Ingrid Ballus and North Dakota State sophomore golfer Amy Anderson were named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's At-Large Second Team. Click here to read more on Ballus and here to read more on Anderson.

GOLDEN EAGLES FALL JUST SHORT OF SUPER REGIONAL BERTH
The Oral Roberts baseball team fell just short of its second NCAA Super Regional berth in the last six years. After being the No. 4 seed in the Fort Worth Regional, ORU defeated one quarter of the 2010 College World Series field in No. 6 TCU and No. 14 Oklahoma in back-to-back games. Needing to beat third-seeded Dallas Baptist twice, the Golden Eagles pushed it to a second game, falling short by an 11-9 score.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE STUDENT-ATHLETES LEND A HAND IN PIERRE
A group of about 35 South Dakota State University student-athletes and coaches assisted in sandbagging efforts in Pierre and Fort Pierre in preparation for flooding along the Missouri River.

SDSU'S SMITH QUALIFIES FOR USAPL
South Dakota State junior golfer David Smith carded a two round total of 147 on Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifying to earn one of four spots to compete at the USAPL on June 27-July 2, at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Brandon, Ore. Click here to read more.

ENGDAHL NAMED SDSU HEAD TENNIS COACH
South Dakota State Director of Athletics Justin Sell announced the hiring of Michael Engdahl as the new head tennis coach. Engdahl, who served the last two years as an assistant for now retired head coach Don Hanson, focused primarily on the men's team and coached them to their most successful season in team history during the 2009-10 season, and coached a total of three All-Summit League players during his time as an assistant. FORMER SOCCER STANDOUT LEADS PRO TEAM TO SECOND STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Former Oral Roberts soccer standout Juan Chang, a three-time All-League performer, recently helped lead Antigua GFC to its second consecutive second division title in Guatemala. The victory promoted the club to the first division. Chang was the team's second-leading scorer with three goals and five assists.
