The Summit League Announces Staff Promotions

ELMHURST, Ill. - Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple announced the promotions of Myndee Kay Larsen to Senior Associate Commissioner and David Brauer to Assistant Commissioner for Communications.

"Both Myndee and David have led many of the key strategic initiatives in our Summit Plan over the past few years," said Douple. "These promotions are a recognition of their strong leadership within our office and in working with our membership. Both will have an increased role in the implementation of our next five-year strategic Summit Plan."

Larsen is in her sixth year with The Summit League after joining the staff in October 2006 as the compliance coordinator. Since that time, Larsen has been promoted to championships director and to associate commissioner. Prior to her joining The Summit League staff, Larsen spent five years as the Assistant Athletic Director of Student Services, Compliance Coordinator and SWA at Southern Utah University.

A native of Twin Falls, Idaho, Larsen graduated summa cum laude from Southern Utah University with a bachelor of science degree in communications. The only women's basketball player in SUU history to have her jersey retired, Larsen was a four-year letterwinner for the Thunderbirds before playing professionally in Europe and serving on her alma mater's coaching staff.

Brauer is in his fourth year with The Summit League after joining the staff in October 2008 as director of communications. He oversees the league's public and media relations operations and three-person communications staff. Prior to joining The Summit League staff, Brauer was associate director of media relations at Northern Illinois University, working primarily with football and baseball.

A native of Tolono, Ill., Brauer began his career as a student assistant in athletic public relations at the the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sports management. Brauer has worked extensively in NCAA Division I athletics and held positions in the National Football League and with a sports management firm.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary season at the Division I Ievel in 2011-12, The Summit League offers 19 championship sports and has a combined enrollment of over 135,000 at 11 universities, five of which are located in the top 76 U.S. media markets (Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Tulsa and Omaha). Member institutions include: IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City), the University of Nebraska Omaha (which begins league competition in 2012-13), North Dakota State University, Oakland University, Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University, Southern Utah University and Western Illinois University. Eastern Illinois University is an associate member in swimming and diving and men's soccer.
