ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League has selected IUPUI men’s soccer player Kyle Hyland (Bay Village, Ohio) as the Male Athlete of the Month and Fort Wayne volleyball player Tessa McGill (Muncie, Ind.) as the Female Athlete of the Month for August/September.
Hyland captures the Male Athlete of the Month award after leading the league in goals scored. His eight goals put him in a tie for sixth place in the country through September. The midfielder recorded a pair of two-goal games in wins over Detroit (8/24) and Eastern Illinois (9/22). The two-time Offensive Player of the Week also registered the match-winner over Valparaiso (9/19). His other goals this season came against Milwaukee (Aug. 31), Xavier (Sept. 5) and UIC (Sept. 14). Hyland leads the league in goals (8), points (18), shots (45), game-winning goals (3) and shots on goal (23). He has already scored four times as many goals halfway through his senior season as he did his first three years combined.
