WIU's Parks, SDSU's Eide Named December Athletes of the Month
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League selected Western Illinois men’s basketball student-athlete Terell Parks (Beloit, Wis.) and South Dakota State women’s basketball student-athlete Ashley Eide (Sioux Falls, S.D.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month for December.
Parks collects the first Athlete of the Month award of his career after averaging a double-double for the first-place Fighting Leathernecks. The senior forward/center guided Western Illinois to a perfect 6-0 record in December. He started the month with a 15-point, 14-rebound, five-block game at Kansas City on Dec. 1. Parks added his second double-double performance of the month with 19 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 73 percent (8-of-11) from the field in the win over UIC, ranked 15th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, on Dec. 18. He scored 19 points with eight rebounds and three blocks against Oakland, the Leathernecks’ second league win. For the month, Parks averaged 13.7 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, 1.3 assists and one steal per contest. He shot 58 percent (32-of-55) from the floor while averaging 31.5 minutes per game. The Leathernecks are currently undefeated in league play (5-0) and have a 12-3 overall mark for the program’s best start since the 1957-58 season.
Eide earns her first career Athlete of the Month honor after leading South Dakota State to a 6-1 record during the month. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native tied a career-high with 27 points and set new career single-game marks with 13 rebounds and seven 3-pointers in the win at Georgetown on Dec. 21. In the win over Delaware State on Dec. 18, Eide scored 25 points with three assists and three steals while going 7-of-11 (63 percent) from the floor and 9-for-9 at the line. On Dec. 30, Eide tallied 20 points, six rebounds and three assists while going 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the field in the league-opening win over North Dakota State. For the month, Eide averaged 17.9 points while shooting 54 percent (46-of-86) from the field and 47 percent (22-of-47) from behind the arc. The league’s Player of the Week on Dec. 24 also averaged 5.9 rebounds, three assists, 1.3 steals and 28.1 minutes per game.
