ELMHURST, Ill. − With the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year complete, The Summit League has announced its Academic Distinguished Scholars for the fall season. A total of 232 Summit League student-athletes from five sports (men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball) were recognized as Distinguished Scholars.
In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 grade-point average in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility.
Fort Wayne led the way with a total of 35 student-athletes named Distinguished Scholars followed by Omaha with 33 honorees and South Dakota with 30 recipients. Western Illinois was fourth with 28 while IUPUI and South Dakota State tied with 27 student-athletes each named to the list. North Dakota State (19 recipients) and Denver (18 recipients) rounded out the squads. Associate men’s soccer members Eastern Illinois and Oral Roberts had 10 and five student-athletes named to the list, respectively.
