Inside The Summit
Now in its second season, “Inside The Summit League” is hosted by Tom Nieman. Visit thesummitleague.org/itsl to view the list of channels and times or to watch online. This week’s show includes highlights of men’s and women’s basketball, a feature on South Dakota guard Tia Hemiller and the campus spotlight on Western Illinois.
Basketball / Women’s
The Summit League men’s and women’s basketball league play is underway… The men’s and women’s weekly notebooks and the men’s and women’s resource pages supply all the necessary league info to follow the season.
Five league teams are in action this weekend … Highlighting the schedule are a pair of teams at home as Eastern Illinois welcomes league opponent Western Illinois on Friday and Omaha hosts Nebraska Kearney on Saturday … Summit Leaguers have combined for nine NCAA top-30 individual and relay times, including a pair in the top-10 … Denver’s Dylan Bunch still ranks fourth in the nation in the men’s 1,650 free (14:54.60), while Sam Corea is 10th in the women’s 200 back (1:53.78).
Tennis / Women’s Tennis
On the men’s side, IUPUI is at Marquette and hosts Green Bay while Denver, Fort Wayne and Western Illinois are all in action … In women’s tennis action this week, Omaha hosts Southeast Missouri State and travels to the state of Iowa to face the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. Fort Wayne, IUPUI, South Dakota State and Western Illinois are also all in action on the road.
Indoor Track &
All seven league teams are competing this weekend … A trio of teams, North Dakota State, South Dakota and South Dakota State are at the Jack Johnson Invitational a two-day meet hosted by Minnesota … On Saturday, Fort Wayne hosts the IPFW Duals where IUPUI will also be in action … Summit Leaguers have combined for 11 NCAA top-30 times/marks, including three top-10 performances … North Dakota State’s Andy Lillejord still leads the nation in the heptathlon with a score of 5,628 points … On the women’s side, South Dakota’s Megan Glisar is tied for eighth in the high jump (5’10.75”/1.80m) and North Dakota State’s Paige Stratioti is 10th in the 400 meters (54.58).
