INDIANAPOLIS -- (goleathernecks.com) Western Illinois took one step closer to the $100,000 grand prize in the NCAA 6th Fan contest. The Fighting Leathernecks advanced to the contest’s Final Four following a 57-43 percent win over Summit League rival South Dakota State.
Next up is Sun Belt Conference member Arkansas State. The winner following this week’s voting (March 2-March9) will compete for the grand prize.
“The amount of support shown by the entire Western
Illinois University community is commendable. Our fans,
faculty/staff, student-athletes and alumni are extremely loyal.
They have rallied around WIU since this contest started,”
said Director of Athletics Tommy Bell. “It was a good
challenge for us to advance past South Dakota State yesterday
(March 2), everyone did a great job spreading the word and stayed
committed to vote for Western Illinois University. We need that
same commitment this week to put us in contention for the national
title next week.”
Western Illinois has already earned $10,000 toward the
University's general scholarship fund. The winner of the overall
competition will win $100,000, which will be put towards the
University's general scholarship fund as well.
The institution with the most votes by 11 p.m. Sunday night (March 9) will advance to the championship round.
Fans are encouraged to continue voting via Facebook, Twitter (by using #6thFan #WILL) and NCAA.com/6thFan.
Each round of voting will last one week, with the overall winner announced on March 16. In addition, those who register to vote on NCAA.com have the chance to win either an iPad Air (one person per round) or an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Men's Final Four in Indianapolis.
