Four teams are in action this weekend … Omaha is at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, while North Dakota State is at the Stanford Invitational … South Dakota and South Dakota State are competing at the Griak Invitational … In the Midwest Region, North Dakota State women held on to the No. 6 spot while the South Dakota is at No. 11 … For the men, South Dakota State remained at No. 11 in the Midwest Region.
This week in men’s golf action, IUPUI is taking part in the John Dallio Memorial, while Omaha and South Dakota are at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate … Fort Wayne will be at the Cleveland State Invitational and Western Illinois travels to Murray State … Omaha is the lone women’s team in action as the Mavericks participate in the Kangaroo Invitational.
Summit League play opens this weekend with defending league tournament champion Western Illinois at Omaha and Fort Wayne at Oral Roberts on Saturday and IUPUI at Eastern Illinois on Sunday … Oral Roberts notched its first victory over Missouri State since 2007 with a 1-0 win over the No. 7 team in the NSCAA Midwest Regional rankings.
All eight teams are in action throughout the weekend as league play kicks off on Friday … South Dakota hosts Fort Wayne, the reigning Summit League tournament champion, and Denver welcomes IUPUI, the defending regular season league champion, in the Pioneers’ first league match in any sport … Denver’s Brea Muhle is ranked seventh in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.461) … A pair of Summit Leaguers are ranked in the NCAA’s top five for active career leaders in kills per set, USD’s Kendall Kritenbrink is third (4.27 kills per set) and IPFW’s Emily Spencer is fourth (4.10 kills per set).
Denver is ranked No. 19 in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll and No. 21 in the first RPI report released by the NCAA … Entering Thursday’s play, league teams are a combined 32-31-12 (.507) … Summit League teams are .500 or better vs. 12 of the 17 conferences in which they have competed against this season … No. 19 Denver is at No. 17 BYU Thursday, in one of the top 10 matches to watch this week, according to ESPNW.com … The Pioneers then battle UC Santa Barbara, ranked No. 9 in the West Region, on Sunday … Denver’s Kristen Hamilton broke the school’s all-time points record (117) in the loss at regionally-ranked Nebraska last week.
