All seven league teams are in action this weekend, with six of the teams wrapping up their 2013 regular season … Four teams, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, South Dakota State and Western Illinois are set to compete at the Bradley Classic on Friday … On Saturday, South Dakota hosts the Tim Young Invitational, while North Dakota State is at the UND Ron Pynn Invitational and Omaha is at the Tori Neubauer … The South Dakota State men will also compete at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday.
South Dakota State is the lone men’s team in action this week as the Jackrabbits will be participating in the Bill Cullum Invitational … In women’s golf action this week, Western Illinois takes part in the Pat Bradley Invitational from Sunday-Monday, while Fort Wayne and IUPUI are at the Dayton Fall Invitational Monday-Tuesday.
Denver rides a season-high eight-game unbeaten streak into Saturday’s contest against Omaha … Eastern Illinois hosts Oral Roberts and IUPUI hosts Fort Wayne … DU and ORU sit atop the league standings with 2-0 records … ORU went 1-0-1 against Missouri State this season and recorded shutouts in both matches.
As a league, The Summit League held onto No. 18 in the NCAA RPI, as South Dakota moved up four spots to No. 69 … This weekend marks the half-way point in the league double round-robin schedule … The top three teams will face off this weekend as South Dakota and Denver each host Western Illinois, who is tied for third with IUPUI … Two players are ranked in the NCAA top-10, Denver’s Brea Muhle is sixth in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.454), while South Dakota’s Kendall Kritenbrink moved up three spots from last week at seventh in points per set (5.31 points per set) … A pair of Summit Leaguers are still ranked in the NCAA’s top five for active career leaders, USD’s Kritenbrink is fifth in kills per set (4.34 kills per set) and Fort Wayne’s Emily Spencer is third in attempts per set (12.01 attempts per set).
Denver is ranked No. 16 in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll and No. 14 in the NCAA RPI report … League teams are a combined 37-35-12 (.512) … Summit League teams are .500 or better vs. 11 of the 17 conferences in which they have competed against this season … Denver forward Kristen Hamilton was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award … First place South Dakota State (4-0-0) entertains rival North Dakota State, while No. 16 Denver (3-0-0) visits Omaha and South Dakota … In other matches, Fort Wayne travels to IUPUI Friday, and Western Illinois on Sunday … The Fighting Leathernecks also have a non-league matchup at home against Loyola Chicago.
Five league teams are in action this weekend … On Friday, South Dakota hosts North Dakota in its home opener, while the South Dakota State women welcome Iowa State.
