South Dakota and South Dakota State are set to wrap up their seasons this weekend as they both compete at the Mount Mary Invitational on Saturday … The following weekend on Nov. 2, the 2013 Cross Country Championships will take place in Fort Wayne, Ind. … In the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, the South Dakota State men are ranked No. 11 in the Midwest Region, while IUPUI’s men’s team is No. 15 in the Great Lakes Region … On the women’s side North Dakota State is ranked No. 14 in the Midwest Region.
North Dakota State is the lone men’s team in action as the Bison will take part in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational Monday and Tuesday … On the women’s side, Denver will be at the Las Vegas Showdown Sunday-Tuesday, while IUPUI is at the Braun Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday to wrap up the fall season.
Three league matches are on Saturday’s schedule: Omaha (1-2 Summit) hosts Oral Roberts (2-1), Fort Wayne (1-3) hosts Western Illinois (1-2) and Denver (3-0) hosts Eastern Illinois (1-2-1) … Denver is riding a season-high and league-best nine-match unbeaten streak … DU has not allowed a goal in three Summit League matches.
As a league, The Summit League is No. 19 in the latest NCAA RPI, as South Dakota continues to lead the way at No. 69 … This weekend starts the second-half of the league schedule … The top four teams in the league will face off this weekend, as No. 3 IUPUI and Fort Wayne, who is tied for fourth with Western Illinois each host No. 1 South Dakota and No. 2 Denver … South Dakota takes its undefeated (7-0) league record and 12-match winning streak in league play into Friday’s match vs. IUPUI, who is on a five-match league winning streak and has won 13-straight league home matches … Three players are ranked in the NCAA top-10, Denver’s Brea Muhle is fourth in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.470), while South Dakota’s Kendall Kritenbrink is sixth in points per set (5.39) and 10th in kills per set (4.68) and Fort Wayne’s Emily Spencer is eighth in kills per set (4.68) and 10th in points per set (5.3) … A pair of Summit Leaguers are still ranked in the NCAA’s top five for active career leaders, USD’s Kritenbrink is fifth in kills per set (4.35) and Fort Wayne’s Spencer is fourth in attempts per set (12.02).
Denver is ranked No. 14 in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll and No. 18 in the NCAA RPI report … League teams are a combined 37-36-12 (.506) … Summit League teams are .500 or better vs. 11 of the 17 conferences in which they have competed against this season … A battle between the top-two teams in the league takes place Friday as South Dakota State visits No. 14 Denver as both squads are currently 5-0-0 in league play … Neither team has surrendered a goal to a league opponent this season, earning all five wins via shutout … The Pioneers are on a seven match win streak, while the Jackrabbits have won six in a row … Denver also hosts third place North Dakota State on Sunday … As a team, Denver is ranked in the top-10 in the nation in five categories, including leading the country in save percentage (0.913).
Six league teams are in action this weekend … IUPUI will open its season at Eastern Illinois on Friday as the Panthers host their home opener followed by both teams competing in a tri-meet with UIC on Saturday … Also competing on Friday are Denver at Arizona State and the South Dakota State women hosting UNI … On Saturday, Omaha welcomes Illinois State, in the Mavericks home opener and the South Dakota women host UNI.
