The Summit League men’s and women’s basketball seasons began Nov. 8 … The men’s and women’s weekly notebooks and the men’s and women’s resource pages supply all the necessary league info to follow the season.
Seven league teams head to the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 15 … Fort Wayne and IUPUI will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wis., while North Dakota State, Omaha, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa. … Five teams league teams were ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings … For the men, South Dakota State is ranked No. 10 in the Midwest Region and South Dakota is at No. 14, while IUPUI is No. 15 in the Great Lakes Region … On the women’s side North Dakota State is ranked No. 14 in the Midwest Region and South Dakota State is No. 15.
The Summit League Championship begins Friday in Macomb, Ill., with semifinals pairing top-seeded Denver and No. 4 seed IUPUI followed by No. 2 seed Oral Roberts and No. 3 seed Western Illinois, the two-time defending champion and host … All the championship information can be found here … Denver enters its first Summit League Championship as the top seed after becoming just the fourth team in history to complete its first league circuit unbeaten and untied.
Summit League regular season play wraps up this weekend … Five teams, IUPUI, South Dakota, Denver, Fort Wayne and North Dakota State have clinched berths to The Summit League Championship with South Dakota State and Western Illinois vying for the final spot … Three players are ranked in the NCAA top-10, Denver’s Brea Muhle is fifth in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.462), while South Dakota’s Kendall Kritenbrink is fifth in points per set (5.40) and Fort Wayne’s Emily Spencer is sixth in points per set (5.36) and seventh in kills per set (4.75) … A pair of Summit Leaguers are still ranked in the NCAA’s top five for active career leaders, Fort Wayne’s Spencer is third in attempts per set (12.03) and USD’s Kritenbrink is fifth in kills per set (4.37).
Denver captured the 2013 Women’s Soccer Championship with victories over Fort Wayne and North Dakota State … The Pioneers earned a No. 4 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host Colorado Saturday at 4:30 p.m. … Denver defeated Colorado 3-0 earlier this season … Denver is ranked No. 15 this week in the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll and No. 13 in the NCAA RPI report … League teams are a combined 37-36-12 (.506) against non-league opposition this season … Summit League teams are .500 or better vs. 11 of the 17 conferences in which they have competed against this season … As a team, Denver is ranked in the top-10 in the nation in seven different statistical categories.
Three league teams are in action this weekend … South Dakota is at Green bay tonight and at the Border Battle, Friday and Saturday … South Dakota State is at Nebraska on Friday, while Western Illinois hosts Valparaiso on Saturday.
