Each month, The Summit League will feature outstanding student-athlete performances from a selected institution as recognized by its Faculty Athletic Representative. The January installment of The Summit League Scholar-Athlete Spotlight features three student-athletes from Omaha.
Ashley Kildow, Cross Country/Track &
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Omaha, Neb.
Major: Exercise Science
Kildow began her senior season as the Mavericks’ top finisher in all seven cross country events including an eighth-place finish at the 2014 Summit League Championship in November. This season, she ran career-best 5K (18:20.25) and 6K (22:14.4) times and earned UNO’s first-ever Summit League cross country female athlete of the week award. She is a four-year letter winner.
A mainstay in the distance events in track & field during her time with the Mavericks, she set personal bests indoors in the 800 meters and the mile and outdoors in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 meters and finished fifth overall in the 1,500 at the Summit League Outdoor Championship.
Mark Moulton, Men’s Soccer
Eligibility Year/Hometown: So./Omaha, Neb.
This fall, Moulton earned first team Summit League honors for his accomplishments on the pitch and was named to the Summit League All-Academic Team for his work in the classroom. This season, Moulton appeared in 17 games for the Mavericks scoring three goals and dishing out 10 assists. He set a program record for assists in a season and has tied the career mark for assists in a career. Moulton led the Summit League with 10 assists and tied for third in the Summit League with 16 points.
Moulton was twice named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week. His first league award was after a five point performance against Cincinnati and Belmont. The second league award followed a six-point week against Bradley and Denver.
Mikaela Shaw, Women’s Basketball
Eligibility Year/Hometown: So./Deweese, Neb.
The sophomore is quickly becoming one of the leaders on the Maverick women’s basketball team. As a freshman last season, Shaw was named to the Summit League All-Newcomer team. She earned a spot on the Summit League Academic Honor Roll and was tabbed as a Distinguished Scholar.
This season, Shaw is having an even bigger impact on the court by averaging 12.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She scored a career high 24 points earlier this month in a victory over Peru State. In a game against Air Force in November, Shaw grabbed a career high 17 rebounds. She is Omaha’s leading scorer and has led the team in scoring in four times and in rebounding eight times.
