As The Summit League’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) prepares to host its 10th annual meeting in Chicago, the league will profile one of the league’s nine institution’s SAAC representatives each weekday leading up to the July 25-27 meeting.
This year’s SAAC representatives consist of 18 student-athletes from nine different sports – five volleyball players, four cross country/track and field athletes, three swimming and diving athletes and one athlete from each of the following sports, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, golf, tennis and baseball. The group consists of eight seniors, eight juniors, one sophomore and one former student-athlete.
Today, we get to know Oral Roberts’ Ryan Masey and Samantha Watson.

Favorite summer vacation spot: The Outer Banks in North Carolina.
Currently on your music play list: A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay.
Funniest memory from youth sports: In little league baseball I once swung at a pitch that was so high that the catcher couldn't even catch it. I was short for my age and the pitch I swung at would have been too high for even an adult.
Actor/actress that would play you in a movie: Michael Fassbender.
Remembering your first college competition: It was really hot and I had no idea how the course went, I was just following everyone else.
The sport you would be playing, if you were not playing your current sport: Basketball because that was my favorite sport to play as a kid, but I gave it up to run.
Favorite athlete growing up: Ken Griffey, Jr. because of the joy and fierce competitiveness that he always played with.
Favorite professional sports team: Tennessee Titans.
Three things in life you couldn’t live without: Movies because they are what inspire and teach me about life. Running shoes because I wouldn't make it running barefoot. My contacts because otherwise I would be blindly stumbling around and constantly bumping into things/people.
Three people in history you would want to join you at a four-person table: Fyodor Dostoevsky, Martin Luther King, and Teddy Roosevelt.
Favorite television show: Seinfeld.
Best advice you’ve ever received: That you can do anything that you set your mind to if you work hard enough for it. I believe in that, and I think that’s partly why I've been able to compete on the Division I level.
Sr. | Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field | Schuylerville, N.Y.
Favorite summer vacation spot: Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Currently on your music play list: LinKin Park.
Funniest memory from youth sports: When I played in an indoor soccer league (fourth or fifth grade), one day during the game I was defending and picked up the soccer ball with my hands as if I was the goalie! So embarrassing.
Actor/actress that would play you in a movie: Angelina Jolie.
Remembering your first college competition: It was blazing hot but I finished better than I expected to.
The sport you would be playing, if you weren’t playing your current sport: Soccer.
Favorite athlete growing up: Michelle Kwan.
Three things in life you couldn’t live without: I could not live without my watch, friends, and phone. I almost never take my watch off. It's pretty much a part of my arm. From running to always needing to get places on time it is a necessity. My friends help me keep balance in my life and make my life fun. I have no idea what people did before having phones. I would never find anywhere I was trying to go or be able to communicate plans without it!
Favorite television show: PSYCH.
Best advice you’ve ever received: Everyday is an opportunity you won't have again.
