Summit League Inks Long-Term Broadcast Deal with Midco Sports Network

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League and Midco Sports Network announced a landmark deal today that will extend their partnership for at least the next three years. Highlighting the long-term agreement is the continuation of Summit League programming and live event telecasts, including all quarterfinal and semifinal basketball tournament games.

The level of production exhibited by Midco Sports Network in the five years since our relationship began is second to none. Having this opportunity to advance our league’s reach is a testament to the work put forth by Midco Sports Network.”

For the next three years beginning with the 2014-15 season, Midco Sports Network will produce and distribute the following Summit League programming on an annual basis:

  • A minimum of 12 regular season men’s/women’s basketball games
  • All men’s and women’s quarterfinal and semifinal Summit League Tournament games
  • Forty Inside The Summit League episodes

Following the initial three-year term, the contract has an option for an additional three years through the 2019-20 season.

The agreement also includes distribution by Midco Sports Network to Summit League partners, including ESPN3 for live events and across affiliates in league markets and beyond for Inside The Summit League.

Midco Sports Network, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., began its partnership with The Summit League in 2009 and has since produced and aired quarterfinal and semifinal games at The Summit League Basketball Championships. In 2012, MidcoSN added an annual schedule of Summit League regular season basketball games that included national distribution. The most recent endeavor between the network and the league, the weekly Inside The Summit League show, also began in 2012, and is distributed across Summit League markets and additional locations across the nation. MidcoSN has also aired The Summit League’s Baseball Championship and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

In its fourth decade of Division I athletics, The Summit League offers 19 championship sports and has a combined enrollment of over 120,000 at nine institutions, including four located in top 60 U.S. metro populations and two land-grant universities. Member institutions include: Denver (University of Denver), Fort Wayne (Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), North Dakota State University, Omaha (University of Nebraska Omaha), Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University and Western Illinois University. Previously known as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League rebranded in 2007 and has since produced eight NCAA Champions along with over 65 All-Americans, 60 Academic All-America selections and numerous former student-athletes competing at the highest professional level.
