ORU's Trevino Named NCBWA Freshman All-American
LYNCHBURG, Va. – (orugoldeneagles.com) Oral Roberts University third baseman Jose Trevino added to his trophy case on Monday afternoon, as he was named a Second Team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Last week, the Corpus Christi, Texas, native was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, and he was also the Summit League's Newcomer of the Year.
Trevino led ORU with a .317 batting average, 13 home runs and 57 runs batted in as a rookie. He broke ORU's freshman records for home runs, RBI, and hits (78) while slugging .573 and only striking out 34 times in 63 games.
With Trevino batting in the middle of the order, ORU posted a 38-25 record and captured their 15th consecutive Summit League championship in 2012. The Golden Eagles advanced to the Waco Regional, where the upset No. 4 Baylor in the opening round.
