#SummitGF Academic All-League Teams Announced

 

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League has announced its 2017 Men's and Women's Golf Academic All-League Teams as voted on by a panel of each institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. The student-athletes named to the teams were honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.

The men's team was represented by five student-athletes with Fort Wayne leading the way with a pair of selections in Devin Jenkins and Zach Schroeder. Western Illinois' Andrew Blackburn, Omaha's Ben Maskus, and South Dakota State's Grant Smith were also named to the team. Blackburn, Jenkins, and Smith are all repeat selections from last season.

Jenkins, a finance major with a 3.54 grade-point average, compiled a 75.42 stroke average this season. He finished first at the NKU Fall Classic in September and placed 13th at The Summit League Championship.

Schroeder set an all-time program low with a 73.61 stroke average this season to finish sixth in the league. A business major with a 3.71 GPA, he was a second team all-league selection after compiling four top-10 finishes and three top-five performances.

Blackburn, who owns a 3.45 GPA as an economics major, averaged 75.6 strokes in 35 rounds this season. He shot 72 or lower in the final round across four consecutive tournaments during the spring.

Maskus led Omaha in scoring with a school-record 75.0 stroke average this season. The business administration major with a 3.41 GPA finished eighth at The Summit League Championship after posting the third-best 54-hole score of his career (218).

Smith, who has a 3.66 GPA in mathematics, led South Dakota State to its second consecutive Summit League Championship and while claiming the Championship MVP honor. He recorded a team-best 10 rounds at-or-below par this season.

The five selections on the women's team were led by the Denver duo of Jessica Carty and Jessica Dreesbeimdieke, who each earned their second consecutive academic all-league award. Oral Roberts' Kennedy Ishee, South Dakota's Brenna Lervick, and North Dakota State's Natalie Roth rounded out the team.

Carty was a first team all-league selection after tying for fourth with a 74.6 season stroke average. The psychology and communications major with a 3.49 GPA, finished as runner-up at The Summit League Championship, one of three top-five finishes this season.

Dreesbeimdieke, a psychology and socio-legal studies major with a 3.99 GPA, compiled a 76.28 stroke average this season. She recorded three top-10 finishes, including a season-best third-place finish at the Pioneer Invitational.

Ishee was a second team all-league selection after leading Oral Roberts with a 74.6 season stroke average, good for fourth in The Summit League. She owns a 3.58 GPA as a finance major.

Lervick, a mathematics major and psychology and business administration minor with a 3.42 GPA, was a first team all-league selection after leading The Summit League with a 74.2 stroke average. She won two tournaments during the season and placed as runner-up twice while totaling six top-five finishes. The senior finished in the top-10 in eight of 11 tournaments played this season and claimed a Summit League Golfer of the Month award in the fall and a Golfer of the Week nod in the spring.

Roth, who has a 3.41 GPA as a pre-chiropractic major, was a first team all-league performer. She finished third at The Summit League Championship and her team-best 74.25 stroke average placed second in the league. The junior won the UNO Invitational in September, one of four top-five finishes this season.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.  The men's and women's golf academic all-league teams are made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
