Three Men's Golf Teams Earn GCAA Academic Award

NORMAN, Okla. -- Three Summit League men's golf programs earned the Team Academic Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) it was announed Wednesday.

Fort Wayne, Oral Roberts and South Dakota State were all honored for having a team GPA of 3.00 or higher.

The Mastodons earned the distinction for the sixth time in program history.

The ORU men, who finished runners-up at the 2017 Summit League Championship, posted a 3.3 team GPA. Of the 11 golfers on the active roster to finish the year, 10 of them have above a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Josh Montgomery posted a perfect 4.0 last semester and has a 3.73 cumulative GPA, while Riley Kovach has a 3.67 GPA after his freshman season.

The Jackrabbits posted a 3.11 team GPA. Senior Grant Smith was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon names All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the second-straight year earlier this month.
