Western Illinois 73, South Dakota 71
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Ceola Clark's basket as time ran out gave Western Illinois a 73-71 win over South Dakota Thursday night. The game was The Summit League opener for both teams.

South Dakota never led in the game, but Juevol Myles hit a 3 with 7 seconds left to finally draw South Dakota even at 71 before Clark's game-winner from the lane. Clark finished 8 of 13 from the floor, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range.

Clark led the Leathernecks (4-3, 1-0) with 20 points in the Summit League opener for both teams. Don McAvoy III added 16 points, Terell Parks 14 and Jordan Foster scored 11.

Myles had 21 points, 15 of them in the second half, for the Coyotes (3-4, 0-1). Karim Rowson added 19 points -- 17 in the second half.

The Leathernecks led 31 -19 at the half, but South Dakota, which shot 27 percent in the first half, hit 64 percent in the second half to get back into it.

North Dakota State 95, Omaha 51
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Taylor Braun scored 26 points and nine rebounds, both game highs, and North Dakota State used great 3-point shooting to rout Omaha 95-51 Thursday night in the Summit League opener for both teams.

Braun was 7 of 9 from behind the arc and North Dakota State was 15 of 25, or 60 percent. NDSU shot 58 percent overall from the field.

TrayVonn Wright and Marshall Bjorklund scored 14 points and Lawrence Alexander added 13 points for the Bison (6-2).

Justin Simmons scored 14 for the Mavericks (2-6), who were playing their first Summit League game.

Though this was their first Summit League meeting, the schools have played 68 games dating to the 1935-36 season. North Dakota State has won 40 times.

Kansas City 79, IUPUI 65
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Fred Chatmon scored a career-high 20 points to lead Kansas City to a 79-65 win over IUPUI Thursday night in the Summit League opener for both schools.

Chatmon also grabbed nine rebounds as the Kangaroos (3-3) had a 38-26 advantage on the boards. Nate Rogers added 13 points for Kansas City, which was playing for the first time since Nov. 23.

Thomas Staton scored 11 and Kirk Korver had 10 points for the Kangaroos.

P.J. Hubert led the Jaguars (3-5) with 18 points. Donovan Gibbs had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Mitchell Patton and John Hart scored 10 apiece for IUPUI.
