South Dakota State 70, No. 16/17 New Mexico 65
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) –Nate Wolters scored 28 points and handed out seven assists, leading South Dakota State to a 70-65 upset of No. 16 New Mexico on Saturday.
Kendall Williams scored 21 to lead the Lobos, who went 7 of 12 from the foul line in the closing minutes to frustrate their own comeback efforts.
Jordan Dykstra had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Jackrabbits, who went 10 for 11 from the line down the stretch to preserve their lead. Chad White added 13 points for South Dakota State and Brayden Carlson had 10.
The Jackrabbits (10-4) led the final 37 minutes of the game after taking the lead with an early 8-0 run.
Wolters' 3-pointer with 4:49 left in the first half gave South Dakota State its largest lead at 35-23. But the Lobos (12-1) closed the half with an 11-3 run to trail 38-34 entering the second half.
New Mexico never got closer than three points the rest of the way. Williams, the team's leading scorer for the season, sat out the first 5:33 after he and fellow starter Chad Adams arrived late.
The Jackrabbits had a 1,220-mile bus ride from their last game Wednesday in Nashville, Tenn., because of the weather. They didn't arrive until Friday evening.
Oakland 59, Eastern Michigan 57
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Ryan Bass hit a jump shot with 2 seconds left to give Oakland a 59-57 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
Bass' game-winner came after J.R. Sims hit 1 of 2 free throws with 16 seconds left to tie the game, as Oakland (5-8) held on after the Eagles (6-5) rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit.
Travis Bader led the Golden Grizzlies with 21 points and Corey Petros had 13 rebounds. Oakland won despite shooting 31.5 percent from the field and 58 percent from the free-throw line.
Eastern Michigan got 17 points from Jalen Ross, 11 from Derek Thompson and 10 from Daylen Harrison. The Eagles trailed 35-21 early in the second half and were still down by double digits with 9:48 remaining before going on a 15-3 run to take their first lead of the game, 52-50, with 2:25 remaining.
Southeast Missouri 66, Kansas City 65
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Tyler Stone scored 28 points, including two free throws with 28 seconds left that gave UMKC a 66-65 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.
Stone was 10 of 17 from the field, was perfect on eight free-throw attempts and added nine rebounds for the Redhawks (8-6). Corey Wilford chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Nate Rogers had 14 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Kangaroos (4-8), and Fred Chatmon had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Thomas Staton scored 13 points, but his foul on Stone produced the game-winning free throws, and he and Estan Tyler each missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Southeast Missouri State led by 11 in the second half, but UMKC fought back and took its first lead, 55-53, on Chatmon's layup with 7:36 to play. Kirk Korver's 3-pointer with 42 seconds left put UMKC ahead 65-64 before Stone's foul shots.
Green Bay 72, South Dakota 55
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Alec Brown scored 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and Green Bay went on to defeat South Dakota 72-55 on Saturday night.
Green Bay (5-7) shot 56.5 percent from the field, making 26 of 46 attempts including six 3-pointers and was 14 of 20 from the free-throw line.
Brown scored Green Bay's first seven points to give the Phoenix a 7-2 lead early, but South Dakota (5-8) stormed back, going on a 15-4 run capped by a Brandon Bos jumper with 10:34 remaining in the first half to give the Coyotes a 17-11 lead.
The Phoenix took over from there, outscoring South Dakota 24-8 to take a 35-25 lead at half time and never trailed again.
Keifer Sykes and 17 points and eight assists while Sulton Muhammad had 10 points for the Phoenix. Trevor Gruis scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead South Dakota.
Texas-Pan American 80, Omaha 72
EDINBURG, Texas (AP) -- Brandon Provost scored 19 points to lead Texas-Pan American to an 80-72 win over Omaha on Saturday night.
Provost reached 1,000 points on a 3-pointer that gave the Broncos a 53-51 lead at 12:10 in the second half.
Aaron Urbanus and Jesus Delgado scored 16 apiece. Justin Leathers had seven rebounds.
Omaha led 43-35 at halftime. The Mavericks (3-11) shot 49 percent from the field, while the Broncos shot 48 percent. But the Broncos (6-8) won at the free-throw line, making 19 of 32. The Mavericks were 10 of 13. The Broncos beat the Mavericks in rebounds, 35-31.
At the 3-minute mark, Lauri Toivonen tied the game at 70. The Broncos took a 71-70 lead on a free throw by Leathers. The Broncos would keep the lead.
Justin Simmons scored 17 points. John Karhoff added 14 points, and Alex Welhouse had 12 points, seven rebounds. CJ Carter had 11 points.
