South Dakota State 64, Western Illinois 55
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - Nate Wolters scored 28 points to help put South Dakota State in control of the Summit League regular-season title with a 64-55 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.
Wolters, a senior playing in his final home game, was 10 of 16 from the floor for the Jackrabbits (21-7, 12-3), who moved into first place, a half-game ahead of the Leathernecks (19-6, 11-3). SDSU can clinch the No. 1 spot in the conference tournament with a victory at Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 28.
Jordan Dykstra added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Jackrabbits, who won their school-record 30th consecutive home game.
Ceola Clark had 20 points for the Leathernecks, who trailed by as many as 12 but rallied in the second half. Adam Link's layup with 4:15 to play pulled WIU within 49-47, but Wolters made back-to-back layups before Chad White iced the victory with a 3-pointer with 1:03 left.
Oakland 86, Kansas City 74
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Travis Bader had 29 points and eight rebounds and Oakland won its seventh straight game, defeating Kansas City 86-74 Saturday night.
Drew Valentine added 17 points, Ryan Bass had 16 and Corey Petros 12 for the Golden Grizzlies (15-13, 10-4 Summit), who hit 10 of 21 3-point attempts and outrebounded the Kangaroos 35-25. Duke Mondy had nine assists for Oakland.
Kansas City (7-21, 4-10), which has lost seven of its last eight games, got 18 points from Nelson Kirksey, 17 from Thomas Staton and 11 from Estan Tyler.
The Golden Grizzlies never trailed, leading by as many as 21 when Valentine scored on a tip-in to make it 43-22 with 3:08 left in the first half.
Kansas City rallied in the second half, pulling within 76-72 on Staton's layup with 58 seconds left, but Oakland closed it out with 10 straight free throws in the final minute.
Oakland has beaten the Kangaroos 14 straight times.
North Dakota State 75, IUPUI 39
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Marshall Bjorklund and Kory Brown scored 12 points apiece in North Dakota State's 75-39 dismantling of IUPUI on Saturday night.
Lawrence Alexander added 10 points for the Bison (20-7, 11-4 Summit League). North Dakota State notched its third 20-win season as a Division I program, joining the 2006-07 and 2008-09 squads.
Lyonell Gaines led the Jaguars (6-22, 1-13) with 14 points. Gaines was 6 of 9 from the floor, but his teammates were a combined 10 of 40 as IUPUI lost its 12th straight and finished with the lowest point total in school history -- one fewer than in NDSU's 78-40 victory in Indianapolis on Jan. 17.
NDSU was coming off Thursday's loss to Western Illinois in which it scored 36 points, the program's lowest total at Bison Sports Arena since it opened in 1970. The Bison had 41 by halftime Saturday and later led by as many as 44.
Fort Wayne 64, South Dakota 51
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Frank Gaines scored 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and Fort Wayne outscored the Coyotes 36-17 in the first half to put this game away early, defeating South Dakota 64-51 on Saturday night.
Eric Robertson hit a 3-pointer for South Dakota to cut the Mastodons' lead to four, 17-13, but Fort Wayne responded with a 19-4 run to end the first half. Fort Wayne (12-16, 5-9 Summit) led by as many as 21 points in the second half, scored 30 points in the paint and shot 44.3 percent from the field.
Joe Edwards was the only other player in double figures for Fort Wayne, scoring 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Trevor Gruis had 12 points, Casey Kasperbauer had 11 and Juevol Myles chipped in with 10 for South Dakota (8-18, 4-10), which never led in the contest.
The Coyotes shot a dismal 38 percent from the field, making just 19 of 50 attempts and were only 5 of 17 from 3-point range.
