Western Illinois 61, South Dakota 59
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) – Ceola Clark scored 27 points as Western Illinois held on for a 61-59 victory against South Dakota on Saturday night to set up a rematch in the Summit League tournament.
Jack Houpt added 15 points for the Leathernecks (21-7, 13-3), who are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and face the No. 7 seed Coyotes on March 9 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Trevor Gruis and Juevol Myles had 19 points each for South Dakota (10-19, 5-11), which nearly overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 49 seconds.
Myles' 3-pointer made the score 60-59 with 18 seconds remaining, and after Adam Link missed the front end of a one-and-one, the Coyotes had the ball with a chance to go ahead. But Myles' jumper with six seconds remaining missed, and South Dakota could not get a shot off after Remy Roberts-Burnett hit 1 of 2 free throws with two seconds to play.
Fort Wayne 74, Oakland 72
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Luis Jacobo scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting including five 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds to lead Fort Wayne to a 74-72 victory over Oakland on Saturday.
After Oakland's Travis Bader hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 72, Frank Gaines sunk the go-ahead jumper to give the Mastodons the lead with 1:12 to go. The Golden Grizzlies missed their next two shots including a lay-up with 4 seconds left by Duke Mondy and Fort Wayne (15-16, 7-9 Summit) held on.
Gaines ended the night with 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Pierre Bland had nine points, five rebounds and five assists for the Mastodons, which shot 47.5 percent from the field and were 10 of 15 from the free-throw line.
Five players scored in double figures for Oakland (16-15, 10-6) with Drew Valentine leading the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Corey Petros scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
North Dakota State 84, Omaha 57
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Taylor Braun scored 22 points and North Dakota State clinched the No. 3 seed in the Summit League tournament with an 84-57 win over Omaha on Saturday.
The Bison (22-8, 12-4 Summit) will play Kansas City in the quarterfinals on March 10 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Braun, a junior who returned to practice Monday after missing 10 games with a fracture in his right foot, surpassed 1,000 points for his career with a driving layup at the 5:17 mark of the first half. That was part of a 15-2 run capped by a Chris Kading block and dunk that made it 40-17.
Marshall Bjorklund added 18 points and TrayVonn Wright had 15 for North Dakota State, which shot 57 percent and outrebounded the Mavericks 45-25.
Marcus Tyus led Omaha (11-20, 6-10) with 10 points.
Kansas City 48, IUPUI 44
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Thomas Staton scored 14 points and Kansas City secured the No. 6 seed in the Summit League tournament after closing out the regular season with a 48-44 victory over IUPUI on Saturday.
The Kangaroos (8-23, 5-11 Summit), who snapped a four-game losing streak, will face No. 3 seed North Dakota State in the first round on March 10 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
IUPUI (6-25, 1-15 Summit), as the No. 8 seed, will face top-seeded South Dakota State on March 9.
Kansas City entered the day a game behind South Dakota in the Summit League standings but moved up in seeding after the Coyotes lost to Western Illinois. Kansas City holds the tiebreaker after sweeping South Dakota this season.
Nelson Kirksey added 11 points for the Kangaroos in Saturday's win.
Mitchell Patton scored 19 points and Sean Esposito had 10 for IUPUI, which has lost 15 straight.
