ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois' Ceola Clark III and South Dakota's Trevor Gruis were named Summit League Men's Basketball Players of the Week for their performances Feb. 25-March 2. The honors mark the final awards of the 2012-13 season.
Ceola Clark III, Western Illinois
Sr., G, Gurnee, Ill.
Clark collects his fourth career honor and second of the season after leading Western Illinois to a share of its first Summit League title in 30 years. In the clinching victory over South Dakota, Clark tied his career-high with 27 points, connecting on 10-of-15 field goals and 6-of-11 three-point attempts, to go along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Clark tied a school record by knocking down six consecutive treys in the contest. Earlier in the week in a win over Kansas City, Clark scored 13 points, dished out six assists and recorded four steals. Clark averaged 20 points, five assists and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Trevor Gruis, South Dakota
Jr., C, Ellsworth, Minn.
Gruis receives his first career award after a career and season-high performances. At IUPUI, Gruis scored a career-high 26 points and recorded a season-best five assists, more than doubling his season averages in both categories entering the week. He shot 66.7 percent (10-of-15) and added six rebounds. Against Western Illinois, Gruis scored 19 points, connecting on six-of-seven shooting from the field and seven-of-eight free throw attempts while pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. For the week, Gruis averaged 22.5 points, after entering the week with a season scoring average of 11.5 ppg, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He shot 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the field and 92.9 percent from the free throw line (13-of-14) during the week.
