Men's Basketball Championship | @summithoops

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - South Dakota State's Nate Wolters was selected as The Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Year in a vote of the league's nine head coaches, sports information directors and select media members as announced Thursday. The league's five individual awards were spread among four different teams.

Newcomer of the Year honors went to Oakland's Duke Mondy, Defensive Player of the Year to Western Illinois' Terell Parks and Sixth Man of the Year to North Dakota State's Mike Felt. Western Illinois' Jim Molinari was named Coach of the Year.

Wolters, SDSU's initial Player of the Year selection, leads the league in scoring (22.8 ppg), assists (5.7 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (2.5) for the season. He ranks fourth in the NCAA in scoring average and collected a  record seven Player of the Week honors, including an unprecedented run of three consecutive in February. In league games, Wolters leads in assist/turnover ratio (2.7, is tied for first in scoring (23.9 ppg) and ranks second in both assists (5.4 apg) and steals (1.9 spg). He is on pace to become the first player in NCAA history to average 20 points, five assists and five rebounds per game in two separate seasons. Wolters is The Summit League's active career leader in six categories (points, assists, field goals made, field goals attempted, free throws made and free throws attempted) while ranking second in rebounds.

Mondy led The Summit League in both assists (6.0 apg) and steals (3.4 spg) during league play in his first season after transferring from Providence College. He ranks second in the NCAA with 3.13 steals per game for the season.

Parks is the second consecutive Western Illinois player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors after leading The Summit League in both defensive rebounds (7.9 per game) and blocked shots (2.5 per game) during league play. He averaged a league-best 10.4 rebounds per game during league play and his season totals for both rebounds and blocked shots each rank 24th in the NCAA.

Felt, the Sixth Man of the Year, is North Dakota State's first individual honoree since the 2008-09 season. His 2.2 three-point field goals per game rank fifth in the league overall while his 1.9 per league game tie him for ninth.

Molinari earned his second Summit League Coach of the Year award after having received the honor while at Northern Illinois in 1990-91 during the league's Mid-Continent Conference era. He guided the Fighting Leathernecks to a share of their second league title, and first since the league's inaugural 1982-83 season, after being tabbed fourth in the preseason poll.

Joining Parks and Wolters as first team All-Summit selections is Oakland's Travis Bader, the co-leader with 23.9 points per league and NCAA leader with 4.33 made three-point field goals per game this season. North Dakota State's Marshall Bjorklund, the league-leader in field goal percentage (.733 in league games), Western Illinois' Ceola Clark III, who ranks among the league's top six in seven different categories, and Fort Wayne's Frank Gaines, the league's No. 3 scorer (19.5 ppg in league contests) round out the first team.

Mondy leads the second team, consisting of all junior and sophomores, along with the North Dakota State duo of Lawrence Alexander and Taylor Braun, South Dakota State's Jordan Dykstra and Omaha's Justin Simmons. Honorable mention honorees include a pair of players from both South Dakota (Brandon Bos and Juevol Myles) and Oakland (Corey Petros and Drew Valentine) and one from South Dakota State (Tony Fiegen).

The Summit League's All-Newcomer team features Mondy, Fort Wayne's Luis Jacobo, Western Illinois' Adam Link, Myles and Simmons.

The Summit League Tournament begins Saturday, March 9, at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D., and will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports (FCS Atlantic Channel) and regionally on Midco Sports Network. Eight teams will vie for the NCAA automatic bid, which goes to the winner of the championship game on Tuesday, March 12, on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. (CT).
