Omaha 104, Central Arkansas 88
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - John Karhoff scored a career-high 28 points to lead Omaha to a 104-88 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday.
Karhoff was 10 of 13 from the field and a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line to lead five players in double figures for Omaha (10-4), which shot 53 percent from the floor and 11 for 22 from 3-point range. Justin Simmons contributed 18 points, CJ Carter added 13, Marcus Tyus 11 and Alex Phillips 10.
The Mavericks jumped to an early lead with a 10-2 spurt fueled by back-to-back Carter 3-pointers and took a 50-41 advantage into the break. Central Arkansas (2-8) narrowed the gap midway through the second half on a Jalen Jackson layup that made it 63-61. But Omaha responded with a 17-8 run and then continued steadily pulling away.
LaQuentin Miles led the Bears with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
Denver 67, Alcorn State 49
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Brett Olson scored 16 points, Chris Udofia had 15 and Denver rolled to a 67-49 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Invitational.
Denver (6-6) has won six of its last eight games after opening the season 0-4. The Pioneers jumped to a 37-17 halftime lead and never trailed against Alcorn State (3-8), who has lost seven straight.
Olson hit four 3-pointers and had six assists for the Pioneers, one shy of his career best. Udofia had five assists and three steals. Both Olson and Udofia shot 6 of 11 (54.5 percent) from the floor.
LeAntwan Luckett, who averages 14.2 points per game, led Alcorn State on 6-of-14 shooting for 20 points. Octavius Brown added eight points.
Denver faces UTEP, and Alcorn State will play Western Illinois Sunday.
South Dakota State 65, Kansas City 60
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Brayden Carlson scored 20 points Saturday night and South Dakota State rallied to beat Kansas City 65-60.
Kansas City (3-9) jumped to a 10-2 lead, but South Dakota State (8-7) clawed back and Carlson hit two 3-pointers to give the Jackrabbits a 28-25 lead. UMKC's Frank Williams Jr. replied with a jumper, sparking an 8-2 run and the Kangaroos led 33-30 at halftime.
Connor Devine tied it at 36 with a second-half jumper and the Jackrabbits pulled away and led 51-43 with 9 minutes to go. Trinity Hall twice pulled UMKC to within four, then scored back-to-back dunks to make it a one-point game with 15 seconds to go, but Martez Harrison drew a technical foul with 0:04 to play and free throws by Carlson and Jordan Dykstra sealed the win.
Cody Larson scored 14 points and Jordan Dykstra had 13.
Nelson Kirksey led UMKC with 16 and Hall had 15.
UTEP 67, Western Illinois 64
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Vince Hunter hit a jump shot with 43 seconds remaining and C.J. Cooper made two free throws with five seconds left to give UTEP a 67-64 come-from-behind victory over Western Illinois at the Sun Bowl Invitational Saturday night.
Western Illinois (5-8) led throughout most of the second half and held a 60-50 lead with 5:12 remaining in the game. But the Miners (9-5) scored nine straight points to close to 60-59 with 2:53 left to play. Western Illinois held off the Miners until Hunter's jump shot gave UTEP its first lead since the 17:51 mark of the second half.
Julian Washburn led the Miners with 18 points. John Bohannon contributed 15 points and had 12 rebounds. Hunter had 14 points.
Western Illinois was led by Garret Covington with 16 points.
UTEP won at the free throw line, making 29 of 39 attempts. The Leathernecks made 11 of 16.
