South Dakota State 81, Kansas City 61
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Cody Larson and Jake Bittle scored 18 points apiece as South Dakota State slammed the University of Missouri-Kansas City 81-61 on Saturday.
Larson also contributed four rebounds and six blocked shots for the Jackrabbits (3-3). Bittle led the team with eight rebounds. Deondre Parks added 14 points and Keaton Moffitt nine. The team hit 83.3 percent from the line overall and 49 percent from the field.
Skyler Flatten sank a pair of 3s early in the first period to give South Dakota State a 17-4 lead on its way to a 44-25 advantage at the break. A 3-point play by Parks to start the second half extended the Jackrabbits' lead to 20 and from there they cruised to the win.
Martez Harrison led the Kangaroos with 12 points. Deshon Taylor added 10.
Fort Wayne 86, Miami (Ohio) 78
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Steve Forbes scored 17 of his career-high 25 points in the second half to lead IPFW past Miami (Ohio) 86-78 on Saturday night.
Forbes was 8 of 12 from the floor and made 9 of 11 free throws, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Mo Evans added 15 points, and Joe Edwards and Max Landis chipped in 13 apiece for IPFW (5-2).
With a slim 30-27 lead at the half, Forbes threw down a dunk to start a 12-2 run to start the second period. The Mastodons stretched that to a 53-38 advantage with 11:26 left. The Greyhounds answered with a 16-4 run to pull to 57-54 with 7:37 remaining and closed to 64-61 with 3:39 left. Forbes answered with a three-point play that started an 11-4 run.
Willie Moore and Eric Washington each scored a career-high 24 points to lead the RedHawks (2-6), who lost their fifth straight.
Denver 64, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 42
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Cam Griffin and Nate Engesser combined for 29 points to lead Denver to a 64-48 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday.
Griffin had 16, Engesser, who made 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, had 13 and Brett Olson chipped in 11.
Denver held a 31-23 lead at the break and pushed that to 43-23 with 15:56 left in the game. Brandon Pye nailed a 3-point jumper to close to 50-41 with 7:36 left, but the Islanders could get no closer.
The Pioneers, who shot 40 percent from long range, made 25 of 45 field goal attempts (55.6 percent) while limiting the Islanders to 15-of-43 shooting (34.9 percent).
Denver (4-3) picked up 19 points off of 14 A&M-Corpus Christi turnovers.
Rashawn Thomas made 6 of 12 field goal attempts to lead the Islanders (3-4). John Jordan chipped in 12.
Evansville 89, IUPUI 62
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — D.J. Balentine scored 22 points to lead Evansville to an 89-62 victory over IUPUI on Saturday night.
Balentine was 8 of 16 from the field, including 3 of 5 from long range. David Howard scored a career-high 16 points, Mislav Brzoja added 10 and Egidiju Mockevicius had nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Evansville (6-1).
The Purple Aces trailed early, but quickly reversed that, running off 19 unanswered points to lead 27-9 at the midway point of the first half, and built a 40-16 advantage at the break. Evansville eased up in the second period to coast to the victory.
The Aces shot 56.6 percent from the floor (30 of 53) and scored 48 points in the paint. Evansville limited IUPUI to 22-of-54 shooting (40.7 percent).
Leo Svete had 17 points and Mason Archie chipped in 11 for IUPUI (2-5).
