Oral Roberts 80, Missouri State 61
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Bobby Word scored 16 points and Adrion Webber added a career-high 15 to help Oral Roberts pull away for an 80-61 win over Missouri State on Monday night.
Word made 6 of 10 field goals, including 4 of 7 3-pointers, while Webber was 6-of-8 shooting and made three 3's. Denell Henderson, Aaron Young and Obi Emegano scored 12 apiece for Oral Roberts (4-4). Emegano had five assists and Henderson added eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Missouri State (5-4) took a 33-32 lead into halftime and a jumper by Loomis Gerring gave the Bears a 37-34 edge with 18:49 to play. Oral Roberts then rattled off 19-consecutive points, including six-straight by Henderson, to blow the game open.
After a layup by Camyn Boone and a jumper by Gavin Thurman cut the Missouri State deficit to 53-41, a 3-pointer by Webber sparked a 16-0 run and Oral Roberts led by 28.
Howard 57, IUPUI 47
WASHINGTON, D.C. (iupuijags.com) - The IUPUI basketball team had lengthy scoring droughts in both halves as the Jaguars fell 57-47 at Howard in their opener of the four-game Gotham Classic on Monday night (Dec. 15). James Daniel, III led Howard (6-6) with 18 points in the win while no Jaguar reached double-digits. Freshman Leo Svete tallied a team-high nine points and Marcellus Barksdale added eight points, all after halftime. The junior also finished with a team-high seven boards and three steals to help offset an 0-of-5 shooting night.
The loss was the Jaguars' sixth straight, four of which have come away from home.
The Jaguars finished at just 28.3 percent from the field and 4-of-26 (15.4 percent) from three-point range. Senior DavRon Williams and sophomore Josh James were the only Jags to finish at better than 50 percent from the floor as both hit 2-of-3 field goal tries.
Howard shot 42 percent overall and 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from deep. Carlton scored 17 points for the Bison and Marcel Boyd grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, including 11 off the defensive glass.
