North Dakota State 72, Oral Roberts 66
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Lawrence Alexander scored a career-high 31 points, including 6 of 10 3-pointers, and North Dakota State beat Oral Roberts 72-66 with a late surge on Friday in a Summit League opener.

Tied at halftime, Lawrence scored the go-ahead free throw, 67-66, with 42 seconds left to spark an 8-0 run and the Bison (9-5, 1-0) pulled away.

Dexter Werner scored 13 and the Bison shot 11 of 22 from distance.

The Bison led 21-6 after free throws by Alexander, but Oral Roberts rallied 21-3 to lead 34-29. The Bison used a 5-0 run to tie it at 34 at halftime.

Oral Roberts led 41-36 on a 3-pointer by Obi Emegano early in the second half, but Alexander hit back-to-back 3s and the Bison led 42-41. The lead traded hands nine more times before Alexander's go-ahead free throw.

Emegano scored 25 for Oral Roberts (6-8, 0-1), Henderson had 17 and Korey Billbury 13.

Western Illinois 73, Fort Wayne 67
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Jabari Sandifer scored a career-high 22 points to lead four into double figures as Western Illinois defeated preseason league favorite Fort Wayne 73-67 in the Summit League opener for both schools Friday night.

Sandifer hit just 4 of 11 field goals, but sank 12 of 16 foul shots — including 7 of 10 at the line in the final 1:25 to hold off Fort Wayne. Garret Covington added 17 points, going 11 of 12 on free throws, Mohamed Conde notched a second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Miklusak scored 11 points.

The Leathernecks (6-6, 1-0) trailed by a point at halftime, but shot away with runs of 14-4 and 12-2 to lead by as many as 16 after.

The Mastodons (7-7, 0-1), whittled the lead to six, 51-45, inside five minutes, led by 20 from Joe Reed, and 12 by Isaiah McCray.

Omaha 86, South Dakota 77
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - CJ Carter scored 24 points, Marcus Tyus added 19 and Omaha pushed past South Dakota 86-77 in the Summit League opener for both teams on Friday night.

The Mavericks (7-6, 1-0) overcame a sloppy first half, shooting 60.7 percent from the field in the second. Jake White chipped in 13 points and Mike Rostampour had 10 with six rebounds.

Tyler Larson and Brandon Bos each had 17 points for South Dakota (6-9, 0-1), but combined to shoot 12 of 37 overall. Casey Kasperbauer finished with 11 points, all in the first half, and Larson had 12 rebounds for the Coyotes.

Omaha erased a 12-point deficit with a 12-0 run near the midway mark in the second half. White hit a jumper and Carter made two layups to push toward a 78-73 lead with 2:33 left. Four late free throws and a layup from White sealed it.

Denver 76, South Dakota State 69
DENVER (AP) - Brett Olson scored 17 points, Nate Engesser added 13 and had five assists, and Denver held off a late surge by South Dakota State to win 76-69 on Friday in a Summit League opener.

Marcus Byrd added 12 points on four 3-pointers, Jalen Love 11, and the Pioneers (7-7, 1-0) made 11 of 20 from beyond the arc (55 percent).Denver never trailed and led 26-19 after Byrd made a 3-pointer. Engesser hit back-to-back 3s and the Pioneers led 39-29 at halftime, shooting a 60 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from distance (8-12).

The Pioneers led 57-42 in the second half after Olson hit back-to-back layups, but the Jackrabbits gained ground and George Marshall pulled them within five, 71-66, after a 3 with 38 seconds left. Denver finished with a 5-3 run.

Jake Bittle led the Jackrabbits (9-6, 0-1) with 15, Cody Larson had 14 and Marshall 13.
