South Dakota State 68, North Dakota State 58
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — George Marshall scored 20 points, Cody Larson added 11 more to go with 12 rebounds and South Dakota State pulled into a first place tie atop the Summit League with a 68-58 win over North Dakota State on Saturday.
Deondre Parks also finished with 11 points and Reed Tellinghuisen had 10 for SDSU (19-8, 10-3), which controlled the boards 41-27 to extend its series advantage over the Bison to 12-6.
North Dakota State (18-8, 10-3) took its first lead of the second half with a 3-pointer from A.J. Jacobson to make it 50-47 with 7:53 to go. Parks sank a 3-pointer at the other end and followed it up with two more to spark a 15-4 run that gave South Dakota State the lead for good.
Lawrence Alexander led NDSU with 24 points, Jacobson finished with 14 and Carlin Dupree had 10.
Omaha 77, Western Illinois 58
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — CJ Carter scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a dominating 77-58 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.
Devin Patterson had 13 points and Mike Rostampour added 12 for Nebraska-Omaha (9-16, 3-10 Summit League), which had lost five straight.
The Mavericks held a 29-25 halftime advantage but came out strong in the second period. Jake White nailed a 3-point jumper, Randy Reed made a layup, Kyler Erickson followed with a three-point play and Carter slipped in for a layup as the Mavericks ran to a 56-40 lead midway in the second half. Western Illinois never challenged after that.
The Leathernecks (8-15, 3-9) were without two starters. Mike Miklusak was out with an injured knee and Tate Stensgaard with a wrist injury.
J.C. Fuller had 19 points, Garret Covington added 15 and Dalan Ancrum chipped in 12 for Western Illinois.
IUPUI 54, Denver 53
DENVER (AP) — DavRon Williams scored 15 points and added seven rebounds to help lead IUPUI to a 54-53 come-from-behind win over Denver on Saturday.
The Jaguars trailed by 10 at the break, but battled back to take their first lead of the second half on a Williams layup with 2:53 to play. The game then descended into a battle of free throws with each team hitting 5 of 6 down the stretch, but Denver could never make up the one point difference.
Khufu Najee added 10 points and six boards for IUPUI (9-17, 5-7 Summit League), which snapped a four game losing streak, its second longest of the season. The Jaguars are now 7-3 this season in games decided by five points or less.
Brett Olson scored 18 points to lead Denver (10-15, 4-8). The Pioneers have lost five of their last six.
South Dakota 83, Oral Roberts 70
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Casey Kasperbauer scored 20 points and South Dakota topped Oral Roberts 83-70 on Saturday night.
Kasperbauer was 6 of 9 from the field with four 3-pointers and perfect on four free throws. Tyler Larson added 19 points, Brandon Bos had 14 and guard Tre Brunette contributed 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The Coyotes shot 56 percent, were 6 of 11 on 3-pointers and outrebounded Oral Roberts 41-27.
South Dakota (13-14, 7-6 Summit) used a 12-point run midway through the first half — including back-to-back 3-pointers by Kasperbauer — to build a 41-33 lead at the break.
Oral Roberts cut the deficit to seven a couple of times in the second half, but no closer. South Dakota made 11 of 12 free throws inside of 2:17 to seal the victory.
Obi Emegano paced Oral Roberts (14-12, 7-5 Summit) with 19 points. Korey Billbury added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
