Omaha 73, Fort Wayne 67
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Tre'Shawn Thurman scored eight points in the second half to help rally Nebraska-Omaha to a 73-67 win over IPFW Thursday night.
CJ Carter scored 12 points, Mike Rostampour and Kyler Erickson scored 11 apiece, and Devin Patterson added 10 for the Mavericks (10-17, 4-11 Summit League), who trailed 36-28 at halftime.
The Mavericks rallied to a 52-51 lead after a 13-2 run capped by Erickson's 3-pointer, then pulled ahead 61-55 after Thurman's jumper. Thurman and Patterson combined for 11 points in the final 3:59.
Steve Forbes and Max Landis scored 13 apiece for the Mastodons (15-13, 8-7), who have lost two straight. Michael Calder and Mo Evans each scored 11 and Joe Edwards added 10.
Omaha led briefly but the Mastodons pulled ahead 15-13 on a layup by Joe Reed and pulled away on an 11-4 run to lead by eight at halftime behind Edwards' 10 points.
IUPUI 71, Western Illinois 66
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Marcellus Barksdale scored a career-high 24 points and IUPUI hung on to beat Western Illinois 71-66 on Thursday night.
IUPUI (10-19, 6-9 Summit) held a nine-point lead at the half and extended it to 17 points behind Josh James' layup with 8:44 left to play. Western Illinois answered, going on a 20-7 run — with J.C. Fuller and Garret Covington scoring eight points apiece — to trail by three points with 36 seconds remaining.
Mason Archie II converted two at the line for the Jaguars, and Fuller answered with two free throws at the other end. But the Leathernecks scored just one more point and were unable to close the margin.
Barksdale scored 16 of his points in the first half, and shot 10 of 16 overall. Archie finished with nine points.
Covington scored 30 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Leathernecks (8-18, 3-12).
Oral Roberts 74, North Dakota State 68
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Obi Emegano scored a career-high 34 points and Oral Roberts knocked North Dakota State out of a first-place tie in the Summit League, beating the Bison 74-58 on Thursday.
North Dakota State (20-9, 12-4), which finished its league play with the loss, fell a half-game behind South Dakota State, which faces South Dakota on Saturday in the regular season finale.
Oral Roberts (16-13, 9-6) ran up a 23-6 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game with Emegano pouring in 16, including a pair of 3-pointers, over the span. North Dakota State missed 13 of its first 14 shots and Oral Roberts led 41-21 at the break.
The Bison found some rhythm in the second half and reduced their deficit to 13 on Lawrence Alexander's layup with 6:30 left. Oral Roberts responded with a five-point spurt, including a three-point play by Emegano, to put away the Bison.
Bobby Word added 20 points for Oral Roberts.
A.J. Jacobson led NDSU with 15 points.
