Omaha 87, IUPUI 80 (2OT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — CJ Carter scored 29 points, including six points in double overtime, to help Omaha beat IUPUI 87-80 on Saturday.
Carter hit the first field goal in overtime for either team at the 1:23 mark to tie the game at 73. Later, IUPUI's Marcellus Barksdale airballed a shot in the lane and Omaha called timeout with 1.4 seconds left. Its half-court heave was just off the mark.
In the second overtime, Aaron Brennan gave IUPUI a 78-75 lead with 2:41 left, but the Jaguars wouldn't hit another field goal the rest of the way, getting outscored 12-2.
Tre'Shawn Thurman had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Omaha (11-17, 5-11 Summit).
Devin Patterson hit a contested 3-pointer to give Omaha a 71-69 lead with 3:50 left, but the Mavericks didn't score again in regulation. Josh James made 1 of 2 free throws with 1:10 left and Brennan did the same with 11 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Barksdale led IUPUI (10-20, 6-10) with 18 points.
South Dakota 80, South Dakota State 64
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Tre Burnette netted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds as South Dakota beat Summit League leader South Dakota State 80-64 on Saturday.
Casey Kasperbauer added 17 points for the Coyotes (16-15, 9-7) and Brandon Bos had 12.
South Dakota had a 44-34 lead at the break and took it to 51-36 early in the second half on a 3-pointer by Tyler Larson and a pair of jumpers by James Hunter. South Dakota State closed to within nine points, 60-51, on a Reed Tellinghuisen 3 with 9:11 to play. But the Coyotes put it away on an 11-6 run capped by a Burnette 3-pointer to a 71-59 advantage with 4:20 remaining.
Cody Larson led the Jackrabbits (21-9, 12-4) with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Fort Wayne 84, Western Illinois 64
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Joe Edwards scored a career-high 23 points as IPFW beat Western Illinois 84-64 on Saturday night in the regular season finale for both teams.
Isaiah McCray and Mo Evans added 16 points apiece for the Mastodons (16-13, 9-7 Summit League). Max Landis and Michael Calder had 10 points apiece. The team finished shooting 31 of 56 from the field, including 12 of 24 from distance.
McCray sank a pair of 3-pointers early in the first half to help the Mastodons to a 20-10 advantage and they were up 41-33 at the break.
Edwards, Landis and Calder teamed up for a trio of 3s midway through the second half as IPFW extended its lead to 64-45 and the Mastodons cruised to the win. The Mastodons enter the Summit League tournament on March 8.
Garrett Covington scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Leathernecks (8-19, 3-13).
Oral Roberts 60, Denver 57
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Obi Emegano scored 25 points and Oral Roberts topped Denver 60-57 on Saturday, clinching third place in the Summit League and staying one game ahead of IPFW, which won earlier in the day.
Denver's Brett Olson drilled a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to draw the Pioneers to within two at 57-55. But a flurry of fouls resulted in Emegano hitting 3 of 4 free throws in the last 11 seconds to allow Oral Roberts to cling to the win.
Oral Roberts (17-13, 10-6) led by 10 early in the second half on Adrion Webber's 3-pointer. While Denver chipped away down the stretch, it never tied or took the lead.
Emegano was 8 of 14 from the floor and 9 of 12 from the line. Denell Henderson added 13 points.
Cam Griffin's 14 points paced Denver (12-17, 6-10). Marcus Byrd had 13 points and Bryant Rucker added 12.
