#SummitMBB Academic All-League Team Announced

ELMHURST, Ill. – Five Summit League men's basketball players were selected to the 2016-17 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors of the league's nine member institutions. Student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.

The league's two Academic All-America honorees, North Dakota State's A.J. Jacobson and IUPUI's Matt O'Leary, headline the squad. Joining the nationally-acclaimed duo are NDSU's Khy Kabellis and Paul Miller and Oral Roberts' Albert Owens.

Jacobson, who owns a 3.99 GPA as a zoology/pre-dentistry major, earned his third consecutive Academic All-League nod. The senior guard/forward was named first team Academic All-America by CoSIDA this season. He started 29 games for the Bison, averaging 10.6 points, while ranking second on his team in rebounds (5.5 rpg), assists (65) and blocks (23) this season.

O'Leary, the first IUPUI player to earn Academic All-America honors when he garnered a third team selection this season, received Academic All-League selection the second straight season. Holding a 3.81 GPA as a management major, O'Leary averaged 13.9 points per game and led the Jaguars in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and made three-pointers (68).

Miller also collected Academic All-League honors for the second consecutive season. An accounting major with a 3.48 GPA, he was a first team All-Summit League selection after leading the Bison with 19.3 points per game. He shot 42 percent from three-point range and 78 percent from the free throw line.

Kabellis, a business administration major with a 3.80 GPA, ranked third on his team with 12.8 points per game. The sophomore ranked second among Bison in both assists (80) and steals (34) this season.

Owens, who has a 3.62 GPA as a history major and government minor, earned honorable mention All-Summit League honors during the season. He was the Golden Eagles leading scorer, while ranking fourth in The Summit League, with 17.4 points per game. Owens scored 20 or more points in eight consecutive games during the season, hitting a career-high with 28 points on two occasions within that stretch.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
