League Announces Academic All-League Men’s Soccer Team

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its Academic All-League Men's Soccer Team as voted by the faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors from all eight competing institutions.  A total of 11 student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.

Regular season champion Oakland paced the squad with a league-high five selections including Johnny Dreshaj, Nick Kristock, Sean Magee, Derek Nowak and Joey Tinnion. Tournament champion Western Illinois had the second-highest total with two honorees in Charlie Bales and Aaron Winkelmann. Four additional schools each placed a representative on the squad.

Four of the 11 Academic All-League honorees also earned All-Summit League recognition. Three student-athletes, Western Illinois' Bales, Oakland's Dreshaj and Kansas City's Michael Oakley were first team All-Summit selections while Oakland's Tinnion was a second team choice. Another Golden Grizzly, Nowak, earned All-Newcomer honors.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.  The men's soccer all-league teams are made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
