DU’s Gardner, Underwood, UNO’s Ghitis, Gomez Earn Final #SummitMSOC Weekly Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha midfielder Xavier Gomez and Denver midfielder Alex Underwood were named Summit League Men's Soccer Offensive Players of the Week, while teammates Joseph Ghitis and Nick Gardner garnered the Defensive Player of the Week awards for their performances Oct. 30 – Nov. 5.


OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Xavier Gomez, Omaha
Sr. // M // Chicago, Ill.

  • Captured his first career Offensive Player of the Week award
  • Played a part in both Omaha goals in the 2-0 win over Oral Roberts
  • Scored the game-winning goal in the 16th minute and assisted on Elvir Ibisevic's insurance goal in the 88th minute of the match
  • Leads the league in assists (8) and is third in points (16) this season
  • With the win, Omaha clinched a spot in the upcoming league tournament.

Alex Underwood, Denver
Sr. // M // Winnetka, Ill.

  • Captured his first career Offensive Player of the Week honor
  • Scored the lone goal in Denver's 1-0 win at Western Illinois
  • With the win, the Pioneers clinched The Summit League regular season title outright and No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament

  • Earned his eighth career Defensive Player of the Week honor, second-most in league history, and second this season
  • Collected four saves in a 2-0 shutout win over Oral Roberts
  • Shutout was his second in league play and fourth overall this season
  • With the win, Omaha clinched a spot in the upcoming Summit League Tournament
