Summit League Announces Men’s Tennis Academic All-League Team

ELMHURST, Ill. – Six men's tennis players were selected to the 2014 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league's eight member institutions. Student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.

Regular season and tournament champions Denver and South Dakota State led the way by placing a pair of selections on the team. DU's Alex Clinkenbeard and Henry Craig and SDSU's Parker Lawley and Mateus Moreira headlined the squad after earning All-Summit League honors earlier this season. The quartet was joined by Western Illinois' Mitch Granger and IUPUI's Patrick O'Neill.

Two players, Lawley and Granger, earned their second consecutive Academic All-League honors.

Clinkenbeard, with a 3.57 GPA in biology, posted a 14-5 singles record during the dual season. He went 4-0 in Summit League singles matches and was named Summit League Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24.

Craig, who has a 3.75 GPA as an undeclared major, holds a Summit League best No. 102 singles ranking and No. 58 doubles ranking. The 2014 Summit League Player of the Year went unbeaten against league opposition and was a three-time Player of the Week selection.

Lawley, with a 3.986 GPA in mechanical engineering, went 11-9 in singles play this spring, including a 2-3 Summit League record.

Moreira, who has a 3.614 GPA in civil engineering, compiled a team-best 17-6 overall singles record and a 4-1 Summit League doubles mark.

O'Neill, who has a 3.810 GPA in accounting/finance, recorded six doubles victories and five singles wins on the year.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
