Summit League Tennis Academic All-League Teams Revealed

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its 2017-18 men's and women's tennis academic all-league teams Wednesday as voted on by member institution's sports information directors and faculty athletics representatives. A total of 11 student-athletes earned distinction based on their outstanding performances in both the classroom and on the court this season.

WOMEN'S ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE TEAM

League champion Denver garnered two academic all-league selections in redshirt-junior Arisha Ladhani and junior Bianca Mok. Ladhani posted an undefeated singles record in league play (4-0) while also closing out the season on an 11-match win streak. Mok also generated an unblemished league record in singles play (5-0), an overall 17-2 singles record and a 16-3 doubles mark en route to being named the league's 2017-18 Player of the Year.

Ladhani—a marketing major from West Vancouver, B.C.—boasts a stellar 3.98 GPA while Mok owns an impressive 3.42 GPA as a mathematics major with a concentration in finance.

A pair of Leathernecks also made it onto the academic all-league squad, as Natalia Bravo and Courtney Lubbers both become first-time recipients of the recognition. Bravo—a sophomore from Colombia—is an accounting major with a cumulative GPA at 3.84, going 9-7 in singles play this season. Lubbers went 12-6 on the court in singles action while also maintaining a 3.39 GPA as a nursing major.

Omaha's Michelle Lo was the only women's student-athlete to earn a second-consecutive academic all-league accolade in 2017-18 following a season in which she became the third player in Maverick history to pass the 100 career wins milestone. Lo finished with 101 career wins and a 3.9 cumulative GPA studying aviation with a minor in business administration.

South Dakota's Barbora Kollarova (3.91, finance) finished the season 4-3 in league play and was named to the All-Summit team for the second-straight season.

MEN'S ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE TEAM

Drake's Tom Hands helped the Bulldogs to a perfect 7-0 league record and the program's first Summit League Championship title with his 22-13 overall season singles record. Hands, an All-Summit selection this season, is an environmental science major with a 3.67 GPA.

Joining Hands as both a member of the all-league and academic all-league teams this season is Denver's Jesse Ruder-Hook, who went 5-0 in league singles play and 5-0 in league doubles play. A computer science major with a minor in mathematics and philosophy (3.94 GPA), Ruder-Hook has also made the Pioneers' Dean List 10 times in his academic career.

Rounding out the men's academic all-league team was Valparaiso's Brandon Ancona (computer science, 3.87 GPA) South Dakota State's Emerson Styles (geography and geographic information sciences, 3.87 GPA) and Omaha's Alex Woodward (computer engineering, 3.83 GPA). For Styles and Woodward, this is the second-consecutive season both student-athletes have been named to the academic all-league team. Additionally, Woodward serves as the President of the Summit League's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is a national representative of NCAA Division I SAAC.

To be selected to the league's academic all-league teams, student-athletes must: maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale; complete at least one full year (two semesters, three quarters) at their current institutions; and participate in 50 percent of their team's completed competitions.
